00:00Bad news for pasta lovers in America.
00:07The price of a plate that once cost about $15 could soon jump to $30.
00:12The reason? The Trump administration's decision to impose tariffs of up to 92% on Italian pasta companies,
00:20as part of what Washington describes as a measure to combat dumping practices.
00:26But what exactly does that mean?
00:30Dumping is when a company or a country sells its products in a foreign market
00:38at prices below their actual value or lower than domestic prices
00:43with the goal of dominating the market or driving out local competitors.
00:47That's what the Trump administration says is happening
00:51and is trying to protect U.S. manufacturers from unfair competition.
00:57The decision, however, has angered the Italian government,
01:04which has urged the European Commission to intervene in defence of its pasta producers.
01:10And as this pasta war escalates between Washington and Rome,
01:15it seems the American consumer will end up paying the price.
01:20Literally! At the dinner table!
