00:00Imagine living in a home that keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter without blasting
00:05the heater or aircon on. That same house cuts your energy bills by 90%. Yes, you've heard me right.
00:13That's not science fiction. That is called Passive House. And we're building them
00:18right here in Sydney. Let's go and show you what it's all about.
00:22Passive House isn't a brand or a luxury gimmick. It's the world's most rigorous building standards
00:31that is designed to give you year-round comfort, low operating costs on the bill, as well as filtered
00:38fresh air for a healthy living for your family. In fact, it far exceeds the seven-star anti-durating
00:45targets that we have here in Sydney. Think of it as the Tesla of homes. We're building smarter,
00:54cleaner and designing for the future. So what makes it different inside a Passive House?
01:00Steady temperature throughout, no cold spots, no cold air drafts that usually takes place next to
01:06windows or doors and none of that winter cold dampness. Two, fresh filtered air keeps CO2
01:15down, allergens, bushfire, smoke and pollution out. Third one, ducted humidification,
01:23ensures mold has no chance of survival inside the frame or on surfaces. And the fourth one,
01:31every surface becomes the same temperature as the internal room, making it really a comfortable space
01:37to live in. The secret is in five simple principles. One, super insulation.
01:45We have completed the ceiling as you can see from these images done to perfection.
01:51Two windows are in UPVC frame with double glazing argon gas in the middle,
01:59as well as special locking mechanism for air tightness. The blue membrane that you see or that fabric
02:07that has wrapped the entire house, that what ensures air tightness is being done correctly. The taping
02:15around the windows are very important, as well as doors and slab edge, as well as the roof. So this
02:23fabric wraps the house like, think of it, a high performance jacket. It keeps humidity out, but it
02:30protects the building envelope from any air leaks. And we utilize a blower door tests to ensure the air
02:38tightness of the house has been done correctly and is not compromised at any shape, way or form during
02:44construction. And I'm glad to say we've achieved for this project the target already well below 0.6.
02:510.6. To put it in perspective, a typical house sits at 15 or more air changes per hour. Fourth one
03:01is ventilation. Ventilation here are your heat recovery ventilation, meaning that when we bring
03:07fresh air in, we are not losing the energy within the home. Because you could argue, why can't we just
03:13open up a window or a door? You could, if the environment outside is comfortable and it's the
03:18right temperature, you can definitely open a window or door. But a ventilation system allows us to still
03:25bring in fresh air without the losses of energy within the house. And the fifth one are thermal bridging.
03:32Don't have a situation on this project because we've eliminated that design stage. Thermal bridging are
03:37to do with steel membranes and steel structure. As long as we don't have a steel structure,
03:43that is protruding to the outside and coming into the inside, supporting a cantilever or supporting
03:48a garage space. Because steel structures are highways for thermal energy losses. So together they work
03:56like a thermos flask. They keep in comfort while using very little energy. Passive House isn't just for
04:04Europe or cold climates. It's perfect for Sydney families that are wanting a forever home that's
04:10healthier, cheaper to run, and built to a higher standard, giving you comfort, savings,
04:16and sustainability. And that's the power of Passive House.
