00:00Chinese Premier Li Qiang arrived in North Korea on Thursday to participate in celebrations

00:06marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the ruling Workers' Party.

00:11Li was welcomed by his counterpart Pak Thaisong in Ponyang.

00:16Li's presence is the highest-level visit by a Chinese leader since 2019.

00:21He is one of the seven members of the Communist Party's top decision-making body in China.

00:27China has long been the North Korean government's most important ally and source of support.

00:33The official commemoration is set to take place on Friday and will be attended by a variety of foreign dignitaries,

00:39including former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
