All the Bright Places (2020)
There’s potential tragedy from the very beginning of this heart-wrenching film. Violet Markey (Elle Fanning) is battling survivor’s guilt after her sister was killed in a car accident. She meets Theodore Finch (Jaden Smith) on the very bridge where her sister died, where Violet is about to jump to her own death. Theodore talks her down, and the two form a relationship grown out of their combined discontent with their lives as they stand.

00:05Today, we're going to talk about a touching and emotional movie called All the Bright Places.
00:11This film was released in 2020 on Netflix, and it stars Elle Fanning as Violet Markey and Justice
00:17Smith as Theodore Finch. It is based on the famous novel written by Jennifer Niven, and it takes us
00:23on a heartfelt journey through friendship, love, loss, and healing. The story shows us that even
00:29in the darkest moments of life, there can still be small bright places, moments of hope and light
00:34that keep us going. The movie starts with Violet Markey, a teenage girl who is deeply sad and broken.
00:42She has lost her beloved sister, Eleanor, in a car accident not long ago. Since that day, Violet has
00:49changed completely. She doesn't talk much, doesn't hang out with friends, and spends most of her time
00:55alone. She feels responsible for her sister's death and carries a heavy survivor's guilt.
01:01She keeps asking herself why she survived when her sister didn't. One cold morning, Violet stands
01:07on the edge of a bridge, the same bridge where the accident happened. She looks down at the deep
01:13water below, thinking about ending her life. She believes there's no reason left to live.
01:18But at that very moment, someone else is also there. Theodore Finch, a boy from her school.
01:25Finch is known as a little strange or weird by others. He often acts differently, sometimes loud
01:32and funny, other times quiet and mysterious. But on that day, he sees Violet standing on the bridge
01:38and realizes something is terribly wrong. Finch gently talks to her, trying to distract her
01:44from her dark thoughts. He doesn't yell or panic, he just keeps her talking until she slowly
01:50steps back from the edge. In that moment, Finch saves Violet's life, and from that point,
01:56their story together begins. After the incident on the bridge, Violet doesn't tell anyone what
02:02really happened. At school, she avoids Finch, feeling embarrassed and confused. But Finch doesn't
02:09give up. He keeps trying to talk to her. He knows what it feels like to be sad and lost,
02:16and he sees something in Violet that he understands. In school, they get a project from their geography
02:22teacher. The assignment is to explore wonders of Indiana, to travel around their state and
02:28visit unique or beautiful places. The students have to do it in pairs. Finch immediately asks
02:35Violet to be his partner. At first, she refuses because she hasn't driven a car or gone anywhere
02:42since her sister's death. But Finch insists, saying that maybe this project could help her
02:47see the world again. Finally, Violet agrees. As Finch and Violet start their project, something
02:55magical happens. They begin to travel together to different small wonders of Indiana, hidden lakes,
03:01giant fields, quirky landmarks, and quiet forests. For Violet, each trip is like taking one small step
03:09toward healing. At first, she is quiet and uncomfortable, but slowly she starts smiling again.
03:16Finch makes her laugh with his funny and unpredictable behavior. He tells her stories,
03:22sings songs, and reminds her that life can still be beautiful even when it feels dark.
03:26During one of their trips, Finch and Violet stop by a field full of blue flowers, and they lie down
03:32looking at the sky. Finch tells her that sometimes life is not about avoiding pain, but about finding
03:38the small bright moments that make the pain worth surviving. Violet starts writing again,
03:44something she used to love before her sister's death. She writes about their adventures and the
03:49places they visit. Her words slowly begin to reflect hope instead of sadness. As time passes, Finch and
03:57Violet's friendship grows into something deeper. They start falling in love, not in a dramatic movie
04:04way, but in a soft, healing, and honest way. Violet learns to smile again because of Finch, and Finch
04:11finds peace when he's with Violet. However, Finch also has his own struggles. He suffers from mental health
04:19issues, moments where he disappears from school and home without telling anyone. He has a troubled
04:25family background. His father is abusive, and Finch often feels like he's living in a world where he
04:31doesn't belong. He hides his pain behind his jokes and energy, but inside, he is fighting a battle that
04:38no one else can see. Even Violet doesn't fully understand it at first. One day, Finch suddenly stops
04:46coming to school. Violet tries calling and texting him, but he doesn't reply. When she visits his house,
04:54she sees signs that something is wrong. His room is messy, and he seems to have disappeared.
05:00Later, he returns as if nothing happened, but Violet notices he's different. He seems tired, distant,
05:08and full of sadness again. He tells Violet he sometimes goes into what he calls the dark place,
05:13a mental space where he feels trapped and can't escape. Violet wants to help him like he helped
05:19her, but Finch pushes her away. He doesn't want to be seen as broken. Still, Violet keeps trying,
05:27reminding him that he's not alone. One day, Finch disappears again, and this time he doesn't come
05:33back. Violet searches everywhere, the places they visited together, the bright spots they discovered.
05:39Finally, she finds his car park near a lake they once visited. Her heart breaks as she realizes the
05:47truth Finch has taken his own life. It's a devastating moment for Violet. The boy who saved
05:54her from the bridge, the one who brought light back into her life, is now gone. She is filled with grief
06:00and confusion, but she also remembers everything he taught her, that even when life feels unbearable,
06:05there are still bright places worth living for. After Finch's death, Violet is lost again for a
06:12while. But slowly, she starts to heal. She visits all the places they explored together and remembers
06:19the good moments. She reads the notes Finch left behind and realizes how much he cared for her.
06:26In one of his messages, Finch reminds her that life is made up of both bright and dark places,
06:31but the bright ones matter more because they remind us why we should keep going.
06:36In the final scenes, Violet gives a speech in school. She talks about Finch and how he helped
06:42her see the world again. She tells everyone that sometimes people who smile the most are the ones
06:47fighting the hardest battles. Her words are powerful, honest, and full of love. She ends by saying,
06:55there are places that make us feel alive. There are moments that make the pain worth it.
