Assistant Chief Constable Robert Potts of Greater Manchester Police says witnesses saw Jihad Al-Shamie acting "suspiciously" outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue before carrying out a terrorist attack on 2nd October, and that he was "wearing a hoax device" and "pledged allegiance to the Islamic State". Police have also confirmed that two of six people who were arrested in connection with the attack have been released without charge. Report by Brooksl. 00:00We have been told from witness accounts that a man, now confirmed to be Jihad al-Shammi,
00:06was seen acting suspiciously outside the synagogue before he was confronted by security.
00:12This was not reported to police because the man walked away when challenged.
00:18Around 15 minutes later, he returned to the scene in a black Kia vehicle
00:23and deliberately drove the car at innocent members of the public before colliding with a wall.
00:30He stepped out of the vehicle armed with a knife and resumed his attack.
00:35He had a second knife in his possession and he was also wearing a hoax device on his person.
00:42This device has since been assessed and confirmed to be a non-viable device.
00:48Minutes after the first call was made to GMP and as firearms officers were making their way to the scene,
00:54Al-Shammi called 999, claiming responsibility for the attack.
00:59He also pledged allegiance to Islamic State.
