Tesla Model Y L 6 Seat EV Range Revealed - It's more than I thought!

Tesla’s upcoming Model Y L 6-seat long-wheelbase version surprises with a longer-than-expected range, offering more practicality without sacrificing efficiency. The spacious EV aims to attract families seeking comfort, performance, and extended driving distance.

00:00The new Tesla Model YL, the stretched seven seat, or I should say six or seven seat version of the
00:07Model Y has been revealed officially with its range. We now know what its range is going to be.
00:14We know a few other details, the battery pack and how heavy the car is. Hello my friends,
00:19welcome to the channel. I'm Sam Evans, you're watching The Electric Viking. Great to have you
00:23with us. Tesla Model YL. I think this car is going to be massive for Tesla. People are criticizing it.
00:32I mean, I can't see, I've seen very few positive comments about it, which really surprises me
00:37because there's not many seven seat EVs on the market now that an average human being can afford.
00:44Don't get me wrong, Adam, I'm not talking about the average human being,
00:47you know, global on a global scale, but in the West, in the West, there's not a whole lot of options.
00:52and currently right now I'm driving a Zika 009, just testing it. It's awesome. My boys are just
01:01going, dad, we need this car. I love this car. And I'm saying, boys, I don't want to spend this kind
01:06of money on a car. I would love to, but I can't justify it emotionally or physically. So there's
01:14not a lot on the market, is there guys? So if you can get a nearly five meter long EV
01:19for only a few thousand dollars more than an existing Tesla Model Y, I'm going to guess for
01:25a lot of people, that's going to be a massive opportunity for them. A good thing. New Model
01:30Y, it has the same range as the new Model Y. Now, when I say that, I know that sounds confusing,
01:37but I'll clarify. The Model Y has had its range upgraded recently in China. And I believe that's
01:43applying to German-made models as well. Range is 600 kilometers, WLTP. So it was an increase from
01:51544 kilometers. So an increase of 56 kilometers from the initial release when the car came out
01:58earlier this year. It was 544 kilometers, the new Highland model. Now that's the long range all-wheel
02:04drive. Now, Tesla bumped it up to 600 kilometers of range by increasing the battery size. It does
02:13appear that maybe they improved the efficiency a little bit as well. But anyway, they increased the
02:16battery size, not by a lot. So that's why I think they might have increased the efficiency too.
02:21And it came out at 600 kilometers. I don't know how, but the Model Y L has exactly the same range.
02:29So with the same size battery, it doesn't make sense to me. Anyway, the latest filing information
02:37shows that the Model Y L gets the 82 kilowatt hour battery that's in the standard Model Y long range.
02:48That comes with 751 kilometers of CLTC range, which is exactly the same as the Model Y long range
02:57it's not stretched. So I'm not sure. I mean, obviously the weight has increased. I believe the
03:03weight has increased by about 80 kilograms. So about 175 pounds. And somehow the range is the same. It
03:09doesn't add up to me, but anyway, they're the numbers we're seeing from China. Those are official
03:13numbers from the government. So they have to be more or less correct, you would assume. The battery pack
03:20weight as well is quite interesting. The battery pack weighs 465 kilograms. And CNF Post and other
03:27websites, Car News China and some other sites say that means the energy density is 176 watt hours per
03:33kilogram. But that is actually not correct. Now that is, in fact, completely incorrect and will mislead a lot
03:41of people because they'll read that information and think that's correct. It's not. That's battery pack energy
03:46density at the pack level, not at the cell level. Now, generally batteries are not reported that way.
03:51I mean, 98% of the time when we talk about battery energy density, we talk about it at the cell level,
03:57not at the pack level. I think it makes more sense at the pack level, but we don't do that. So that's
04:02why it's going to be confusing. The energy density of this battery pack, if it was 176 watt hours per
04:06kilogram at the cell level, you'd be getting like closer to 450 kilometers of range. So that's what it is
04:12at the pack level. I'm going to say that the energy density at the cell level is probably about 250 to
04:17260 watt hours per kilogram. That's the likely number. So when's this vehicle coming out? Well,
04:26the government said six-seat Model Y is coming in China this fall. So this fall, in other words,
04:33within a few months' time. Those batteries, of course, come from LG Energy Solutions or LG Chem.
04:39Power. The power is the same as the Model Y, all-wheel drive. It comes with 142 kilowatt front
04:46motor and 198 kilowatt rear motor. So you're looking at about 340 kilowatt in total, total power. Plenty of
04:53power. I mean, more than enough. Hopefully there will be a rear-wheel drive version because there is
04:59the five-seat version, there's a rear-wheel drive version, but that only comes with the lithium-ion
05:06phosphate battery. So it has less range. However, in China now, you can buy the Model 3 Plus,
05:13and that is rear-wheel drive with the NMC battery from LG Energy Solutions. So it has about 700
05:20kilometers of WLTP range. That would be ideal, I think. And maybe there's something going on here
05:28where actually the new Model Y L has only rear-wheel drive. And that's why it's getting
05:34the same range as the Model Y with all-wheel drive that's the shorter version. I'm not sure. But
05:39anyway, these are the numbers we're seeing from China. Officially, 600 kilometers of WLTP range.
05:45and the battery pack size is the same as the existing Tesla Model Y, the updated version with
05:53an 82 kilowatt hour battery. So that's all we know so far about the Model Y L. When will it be coming
05:58to other markets? I mean, we know this car is coming to the United States. I'm going to guess the range
06:03will be similar in the US as well. It's coming. It's going to be a global car. It's meant to be here
06:08within the next three or four months. I mean, whether it will be, I don't know. There has been
06:13videos spotted. It was spotted yesterday, test driving around China. Haven't seen any of these
06:18tests driven in the United States though yet. Guys, let me know what your thoughts are.
06:23Do you love it? Do you hate it? Let me know what your thoughts are in the comments. Bye-bye.
06:2720% cheaper Tesla Model Y. It's, well, here are the changes on the exterior. There is no front bumper
06:44camera, no split headlights, no glass roof. So that glass panoramic roof, that's going. No rear
06:53indirect light bar. I think it looks better without it. Afterburner reflection panel replaced
06:59by body painted panel. So those are the changes on the outside. On the inside, no cup holder cover,
07:07no storage in front of cup holders, no rear screen, single stalk for turn signals, and vegan leather
07:16seats that are not ventilated. Those are the big changes, but there's a few others as well.
07:22All right. So some very interesting information here. Tesla's new, cheap, 20% cheaper apparently.
07:29I mean, this is what Tesla is saying. If it's 20% cheaper, that's, it's going to make it one of the
07:34most affordable electric cars you can buy, period. We know the details now, not exactly, but we've got
07:40some pretty interesting data here from China showing what the new Model Y will and won't get,
07:48or what it won't get specifically, which is very weird to me. I don't understand why this would
07:54be a good idea from Tesla. I mean, some of the things seem good, good to remove them to make
07:59it cheaper, but other things just seem really strange.
08:01I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know.
