Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg has alleged torture and mistreatment during her detention by Israeli forces following her arrest in the Gaza flotilla incident. Speaking at a press conference in Stockholm, Thunberg described harsh conditions including lack of clean water and denial of essential medication, though she refrained from detailing her personal ordeal to keep focus on the broader humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The flotilla, aiming to deliver aid to Gaza amid severe hunger and conflict, was intercepted by Israel in international waters, resulting in the detention and deportation of hundreds of activists. Watch this report for an in-depth look at the allegations, the activism surrounding Gaza, and the ongoing international controversy.

00:00I
01:00I just got released from an Israeli torture prison in the desert, and honestly, I don't
01:18really know what to say, because no matter what we say, nothing is going to bite. Nothing
01:25is going to lead to action from our governments, even though under international law they have
01:30a legal obligation to act to prevent and stop genocide. What happened was not only that Israel
01:37kidnapped us and tortured us, but that, above all, during an ongoing escalating genocide,
01:44in which Israel is openly trying to erase the entire Gaza Strip and the Palestinian people,
01:51the Palestinian nation, Israel once again violated international law and prevented humanitarian
01:59aid, medicine, food and water from reaching a starving population. But this has been said
02:06thousands of times already, and as I said, it doesn't bite. Personally, I don't want to share
02:13what I was subjected to, because I don't want it to be headlines like Greta has been tortured,
02:19because that's not the story here. Nobody wants to be an activist, we want to end genocide,
02:25we want to end occupation and injustice. We can start there, but if it requires it, absolutely,
02:33without blinking, 100%.
