MAJOR spoilers for the premiere of "Daredevil: Born Again" are ahead! If you are looking to see this new era of "Daredevil," you can stream it with a Disney+ subscription.

As Charlie Cox said, killing off Foggy at the start of "Daredevil: Born Again" was a “bold move.” The death of Elden Henson’s character shocked fans immediately, and I couldn’t help but wonder why they decided to make such a big and tragic choice in the opening scenes of the show’s premiere on the 2025 TV schedule. Thankfully, the showrunner and executive producers answered that question for me.

However, that’s not all they did, they also revealed a big way Foggy’s death changed over the course of creating the show.

00:00Why Foggy?
00:03It's something that we lost a lot of sleep over.
00:07Nobody wanted to do it.
00:09But I think we all came to the same realization that it had to happen.
00:13It's Daredevil born again.
00:15You know, we have to bring Matt down to his bare essence.
00:20But it's done in a different way than the Frank Miller comic book.
00:23In the wake of Foggy's death, I can't even say it.
00:27But you see his whole life shattered.
00:32The thing that's really wild about that is when I came in late to the process,
00:36that was already in the story.
00:38But it had happened off screen.
00:40And your reaction says it all.
00:43And I was like, it can't be off screen.
00:44We have to feel this.
00:46And, you know, there's a promise written on a napkin at the end of season three.
00:49And we see that promise in the beginning of this.
00:51And we take a hammer to it.
00:52And it's harsh and it hurts.
00:54But it is also not done lightly because that loss colors everything that goes on with Matt
01:00from here on out.
01:01And, I mean, a version of it happened in the books.
01:03But it was Karen.
01:05And, I mean, like, no.
01:06So it was one of those things that was very, very tough to do.
01:10But I think ultimately it was inevitable.
01:13It's part of the character.
01:15It's part of the story.
01:16And in the Daredevil world as fans, every loss has a new beginning.
01:21Every time he hits the ground, he gets back up.
01:24And we have to watch that.
01:25Yeah.
01:26And if you think about the old show, like so much, this was the fear.
01:29This is always the fear in Matt Murdock's life.
01:33And I think there's so much story to tell when the fear comes to life.
01:37Relationship, friendship, whatever it is with Karen gets just broken with a sledgehammer.
01:41Um, the law office closes, uh, but you find Matt a year later trying, I think, to approximate
01:50what Foggy wanted for him, um, which is actually a really beautiful thing that, you know, and,
02:00and, and, and Kirsten McDuffie and also Heather Glenn kind of exist to support that new world
02:07he's created for himself.
02:09The unfortunate thing is that that world is a lie.
