00:01Hey, don't forget on tomorrow's show, Ryan Reynolds will be here.
00:04And we'll give you a fun and easy do-it-yourself Halloween decorating ideas.
00:08All right, he's an actor and a family man who's now starring in the newest 9-1-1 spinoff, 9-1-1 Nashville.
00:14Please welcome back to the show, Chris O'Donnell.
00:30You guys never met before.
00:33Maybe a long time ago.
00:35Maybe once, yeah.
00:36How are the kids?
00:38Kids are big.
00:39They've got two out of college, two in college, one in high school.
00:43A couple live in here, actually, which is fun.
00:44Oh, fun.
00:45It's fun.
00:45That's great.
00:46It gives you a lot of reason to come visit.
00:48Exactly.
00:49And now living in Nashville is so much closer to the East Coast, which is great.
00:52How do you like Nashville?
00:53I love it.
00:53It's a great city.
00:54I didn't spend any time there.
00:55I had a bunch of friends there, but just had never gone.
00:57Right.
00:57And, you know, timing-wise, it was a good change.
01:01I live in the Palisades in Los Angeles.
01:02Our whole town just burned down.
01:04Yes.
01:04Caroline's still home with our youngest because she's finishing up high school, but Nashville is a great city.
01:09Chris, you're almost empty nesters.
01:12Almost.
01:13We're getting there.
01:13Tell me about it.
01:14It's so fun.
01:15It's so good.
01:15You guys are...
01:16It's so fun.
01:17It's so good.
01:17I'm not going to lie.
01:18They do come back every now and then, which is great.
01:21Yeah, an empty nester doesn't mean they're off the payroll necessarily.
01:24Not necessarily.
01:25Not necessarily.
01:26That's another thing.
01:27You've got to wean them off, slowly but surely.
01:30Yeah.
01:30And I'm trying to explain to my wife that I love dogs, but that's kind of an anchor, too.
01:35Oh, big anchor.
01:36When you say dogs, you need a lab dog.
01:38Three.
01:38Three dogs.
01:39A lab, an English Cocker, and a little Dachshund.
01:40The Dachshund's great.
01:41He's on the travel team.
01:42Yeah, you can slide him right under the seat.
01:44Exactly.
01:44Yeah.
01:45But, you know, my great little lab at home, like, what are you going to do?
01:49It's another child.
01:50Yeah, it sure is.
01:51Are you finding any golf courses when you're down there in Nashville?
01:53I've played a little bit.
01:54I really haven't had time.
01:55I mean, we work in five days a week.
01:57And on the weekends, we spend the summers up in Maine.
01:59So it's been great to get up there and just get out of town.
02:04Golf is obviously my addiction in general.
02:07But I haven't played a lot the last five months.
02:11Do any of your kids...
02:12But I'll survive.
02:13I know everyone's concerned about that.
02:14Yeah, it's all right.
02:15God forbid I know I'm playing.
02:17Do your kids show signs of wanting to go into show business?
02:20My oldest one would like to get in, I think, on the creative side, you know, producing or that sort of thing.
02:26I don't think the rest...
02:26They've all at one point...
02:27It was funny.
02:27We did NCIS Los Angeles was 14 years in L.A.
02:31Everyone was on the show at one point in time.
02:35All three boys played a different age of me.
02:38And it's funny because Finn, number four, his show got cut into, like, five episodes.
02:43Yeah.
02:43So his residuals are much better than his money.
02:46Amazing.
02:46I mean, we're talking about, like, a $3 check.
02:49Like, we're not...
02:49These are not real residuals.
02:50Doesn't matter.
02:51It counts.
02:51His is $43.
02:52And, you know, everyone's a little upset about that.
02:54I like that you call him number four.
02:56Finn, number four.
02:57Yeah.
02:58Do they go by numbers in the house?
03:00We didn't go through one thing, too.
03:01We just kept going.
03:01Thing four, thing five.
03:02Can you believe it's been 30 years since Batman Forever?
03:05I know.
03:05Isn't that amazing?
03:0630 years.
03:08Yeah.
03:08Yeah.
03:09That was actually Batman and Robin.
03:12That's the second one.
03:13Yeah, that's Batman and Robin.
03:15Right.
03:15Right.
03:15Do you still have that suit?
03:17Not that one.
03:17I have from the other one.
03:19You do.
03:19I've got the suit.
03:20I've even got, like, when they were in the circus, you know, the little...
03:23Yeah, of course.
03:24The dancer might have wanted it for, you know, the outfit.
03:26Yes.
03:26It would have been a better costume here.
03:28Yeah, yeah.
03:29There you are.
03:30Oh, yeah.
03:30He's up there.
03:30He said, I don't know how you get that going in the morning like that.
03:33That was amazing, right?
03:34I mean, what kind of caffeine is going into the system?
03:36I don't think it's caffeine at all.
03:38I think that's just...
03:40That was great.
03:40That's just Canadian.
03:41No, but I definitely stole a bunch of stuff from the set.
03:44I've got, like, a Batarang.
03:46I've got, like, my motorcycle helmet.
03:48And, you know, it's...
03:49I don't know what I'm going to do.
03:51You gave birth to the wrong kids.
03:53You should be...
03:54My kids would die to have that kind of access to memorabilia.
03:59Well, they would use it...
04:00That stuff they haven't...
04:01Like, I remember my Three Musketeers costume.
04:03Even my dad worked for Halloween one year.
04:06And my brother, like, everybody.
04:08There's so much stuff that I kind of just would...
04:10I would just take things from films.
04:12And it's all, like, in this basement.
04:14So, yeah, it's a good warehouse for that.
04:16It's probably good.
04:17The Batman stuff's probably valuable.
04:18So, we don't want them destroying that.
04:19Yeah, yeah.
04:20You should probably, like, entomb that in glass or something.
04:22Well, it's in a big wood box.
04:24It hasn't been opened.
04:24It's probably dissolved at this point.
04:27Like a smelly old wetsuit that's just kind of, like,
04:29hanging in there.
04:30We're going to take a break.
04:30When we come back, Chris tells us about the latest installment
04:33in the 911 universe.
04:36And be advised, a tornado has touched down in the area.
04:39Copy.
04:40P.P.s to the high ledge.
04:49Help!
04:50Anyone that can work and get in that building.
04:53Cap!
04:54I'm taking a team of starting triage.
04:57Tell her you don't win.
04:58How far out is that tornado?
05:05That was a clip from the new TV series 9-1-1 Nashville.
05:11Tell us about the show.
05:12You play a fire captain, Don Hart.
05:14I do.
05:15I do.
05:16Married, has a son who's also a firefighter.
05:18My wife is from a very wealthy family in Tennessee, so it's, I come from the other side of the
05:25tracks and we, we met and then there's, there's a whole family drama that's, it's, it's, it's
05:33like the original 9-1-1 with all the crazy spectacle emergencies that the fans of the show have
05:37come to love.
05:38But there's this family drama that's laid on top of it, so there's this, this very wealthy
05:43family I've married into, you know, the father-in-law is not a big fan of me, of mine.
05:47Right.
05:48I have another son that you'll meet, um.
05:51Another one?
05:52From a different woman that's a whole storyline.
05:55Uh-huh.
05:55You know, there's some secrets that come out here and there's a lot going on.
06:00So the storms are happening everywhere.
06:02The storms are happening.
06:02I just laugh, I keep watching that scene, all you think of, it was about 110 degrees that
06:06day.
06:06Oh, I'm sure.
06:07Wind machines, it looks like we are sweating so bad from the heat.
06:11I am sure.
06:11I tell you, summer's in Nashville, very warm.
06:13Does music play big in this?
06:15It does, yeah, which is great.
06:17I mean, they're taking advantage of the Nashville scene.
06:19I'd never been down there before.
06:20Broadway, you go down, these honky-tonks, there's a hundred bars and every floor has
06:25live music.
06:26I mean, there's so much talent in Nashville.
06:28Even at the airport, they've got guys playing, you know, live music.
06:30Right.
06:30So we're definitely featuring that in the show.
06:32Did you consult with real firefighters for this?
06:34Yeah, we always have, you know, tech advisor on the set.
06:36Plus we're using a handful of real Nashville firefighters as kind of-
06:40Amazing.
06:41Background.
06:41Not even background.
06:42They're in most of these scenes.
06:43And it's great because, you know, we'll be saying our lines and they'll be like,
06:46hey, dude, nobody says that.
06:47Right, right.
06:48And I'm like, all right, I'll tell the writer, this isn't real, we've got to fix this.
06:52So it's good to have that.
06:53Can you believe how hard firefighters work?
06:56It's unbelievable.
06:57It is unreal.
06:58Oh, it's such a-
06:58I've always had a great admiration and appreciation, you know, just growing up and 9-11 and everything.
07:05It is a different level.
07:06It's a different-
07:07It is so hard what they do and they're so brave to put themselves out on the line.
07:10We should all be incredibly grateful.
07:12Yeah.
07:13Well, thank you so much.
07:13It's good seeing you.
07:14The series premiere of 9-1-1 Nashville airs this Thursday night on ABC and next day on Hulu.
07:21Coming up next, Mason Fain.
07:23Stick around.
