00:00Sir, I would like you to be able to taste the rainbow.
00:02All right, give it a shot.
00:04So what does he think?
00:06Like it?
00:07Big, oh!
00:09In this video, you're going to witness villagers in Afghanistan trying American candy for the first time.
00:15I'm sorry, he's never had chocolate before?
00:18From the capital city of Kabul.
00:20Oh, I know that face.
00:21I make that same face every time I try this.
00:23Around the dusty streets of Jalalabad.
00:25This neighborhood is wild.
00:26And finally, in Afghanistan's remote countryside.
00:29Every time he eats it, I'm like, wait, do I have more?
00:31I want to eat that too.
00:32This is candy, and these are brands that people here have never seen before.
00:36Will they hate it?
00:37Or will they fall in love with America's sweet side?
00:40Let's find out.
00:42Our sugar-fueled mission begins in Afghanistan's capital city, Kabul.
00:47Here, some locals have become familiar with American brands like Coca-Cola and Starbucks.
00:52But these sweet treats are something completely new.
00:55The first candy we'll be trying today, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.
00:58The perfect blend of chocolate and peanut butter.
01:01Here we have found our first victim.
01:02I mean, volunteer.
01:03Hello, sir.
01:04Salam.
01:04Can you please open it up?
01:08Does he have any idea what it is?
01:10It is like a cacao.
01:12That is true.
01:12It does have chocolate.
01:16Oh, I know that face.
01:17I make that same face every time I try this.
01:19That's my favorite candy.
01:21That one is too delicious.
01:23It is like mixing the peanuts with cacao.
01:25That's exactly what it is.
01:26It's one of the best flavors in the world.
01:28Do you have something like this in Afghanistan?
01:30I don't think so.
01:32This guy has so much self-control.
01:33Look at these little bites.
01:35I didn't know you were allowed to take more than one bite with these.
01:38He says that the thanks from the gift, that one is the best chocolate I've ever tasted.
01:43Please have some more, sir.
01:45Bye-bye.
01:46From Kabul, we're making our way east to the remote city of Jalalabad.
01:52The drive to get there is both beautiful and treacherous.
01:55But the worst part, dozens of Taliban checkpoints.
01:58And these guys can't be bribed with M&M's.
02:01We just pulled up to a checkpoint.
02:02They told us to pull over.
02:04There's like seven guys there.
02:05They're all kitted out.
02:06After making it to the city and scarfing down a choppy kebab, it's time to share the rainbow
02:14with some curious onlookers.
02:15Before I speak to this gentleman here, I have this gentleman here, Khalil, and he's going
02:19to help me to translate.
02:20You ready?
02:21Let's do this.
02:22Let's do it.
02:22Excuse me.
02:23Make way.
02:24I have Skittles to gift this man over here.
02:26I don't know how this is going to work because he's obviously very busy.
02:28I mean, look at this crowd coming here for these kebabs.
02:31That's not a small amount of people.
02:32Sir, I would like you to be able to taste the rainbow.
02:34Oh, look at that handful of meat.
02:36So has he ever seen this candy before?
02:38It's his first time.
02:39All right.
02:40Give it a shot.
02:41What color did he eat?
02:42He tried the red one.
02:43Okay.
02:44Oh, so it's sour and sweet at the same time.
02:46Very tasty.
02:47But what kind of fruit does it taste like?
02:49He says like it's more of an orangey type.
02:54I do think the red one is strawberry.
02:57Now he remembers.
02:58It reminds him of the strawberry.
03:00So do you like it or do you not like it?
03:02Like it?
03:02Oh!
03:03Ah!
03:03I appreciate honesty.
03:06If he doesn't like it, that's the key.
03:07No, no.
03:07He really likes it.
03:08He was just teasing you with a thumb.
03:09Sir, I hope you enjoyed it.
03:12Tasha cool.
03:12All right, folks.
03:13We have another volunteer who wants to taste the rainbow.
03:15I can't tell if he's 12 or 39.
03:18So he's 23.
03:19Right in the middle.
03:19Perfect.
03:20So these are Skittles.
03:21Could he just try only the green ones?
03:25Okay.
03:25What does it taste like?
03:26The lady?
03:27He says that it's more like orange.
03:28Like an orange?
03:29I could swear that the green one is sour apple.
03:31It's not orange.
03:32Apple.
03:33Did you tell him?
03:34No, no.
03:34Sir, you nailed it.
03:35Thank you for participating.
03:36All right, we have our next volunteer.
03:37Now my goal this time is just to have them try grape.
03:40I mean, the purple one.
03:41So he's saying grapes.
03:46Grapes?
03:46Bingo.
03:47That's correct.
03:47It is, in fact, grapes.
03:48Well done.
03:49I thought he would be more excited about that, but I'm excited.
03:52Everybody, he got it right.
03:54It's grapes.
03:55Grapes.
03:55Yes.
03:56Oh, grapes.
03:58I'm moving on.
03:59I lost the crowd.
04:00I lost the crowd.
04:01We have moved to a different section of the neighborhood.
04:04Right here, they're cooking up Afghan kebabs.
04:07And right there, a bunch of Afghan people on a giant truck.
04:09Our next candy, peanut M&M's.
04:11Everyone knows that M&M's are fine, but peanut M&M's are where it's really at.
04:15Plus, it's a good way to test your friends, because if you give it to them and they die,
04:18they were never your friend to begin with, because they're weak, because they're allergic to peanuts.
04:22Oh, sorry.
04:23All right, the kebab man chased me away.
04:25All right, I've got this guy right here.
04:26Hello, sir.
04:27Is he allergic to peanuts?
04:29He doesn't have any allergies with peanuts.
04:31As far as I know, peanut allergies is just kind of a white person thing.
04:36Can I help him?
04:37There we go.
04:38Now put it in your hand.
04:40Okay, so he's got some peanuts right there.
04:42Oh, I missed it.
04:44All right, he's giving a thumbs up.
04:46What does it taste like?
04:47It's more of chogniti and cacao type of taste.
04:50What else is in there?
04:53Peanuts, peanuts.
04:54Overall, would you say big thumbs up or thumbs down?
04:56Thumbs up.
04:57Thumbs up?
04:58All right, thank you.
04:59All right, this gentleman right here says, show his sign.
05:02Give him some marketing.
05:03There you go.
05:03Everyone go to here.
05:05Next time you're in Jalalabad.
05:06That should be soon, right?
05:07All right.
05:08Who's next?
05:08How about this gentleman?
05:09Okay.
05:10All right, try it out.
05:13He looks like he's being a little bit cautious.
05:14He doesn't quite trust me.
05:16So, what does it taste like?
05:18He's saying the same combination, chocolate and peanuts.
05:20Do you wish this was available in Afghanistan?
05:23So, he wants hair in the stores also.
05:25Amazing.
05:26Look, it's peanut M&M's.
05:27Who doesn't love peanut M&M's?
05:28All right, sir.
05:29Thank you so much.
05:30All right, folks.
05:30We are moving on to our next candy right here.
05:32Jelly Belly.
05:33Strawberry cheesecake flavor.
05:35So, this man right here is selling these vegetables right here.
05:37And now he's going to try this candy right here.
05:39Sir?
05:39Here you go.
05:40All right.
05:40Oh, he ate it?
05:42So.
05:43He's tasting strawberries.
05:45Strawberries is correct, but there's something else, too.
05:48He's tasting something like cheese.
05:50Whoa.
05:50This guy has a good palate.
05:52My man.
05:52I am very impressed.
05:53That is correct.
05:54It is strawberry cheesecake.
05:56They have cheese here.
05:57They have strawberries here.
05:58This guy, he put that together.
05:59Sir, this is yours.
06:01It's my gift.
06:01The rest.
06:01So, right now, I am here with the French fry guy with a brand new candy.
06:08This, another Jelly Belly-posted marshmallow flavor.
06:10I don't think he's ever going to guess this flavor, but let's see.
06:13He is a French fry guy.
06:14French fry man, I have this for you.
06:15They're called jelly beans.
06:19Do you like it or no?
06:20He likes it.
06:21Now, can you figure out what it tastes like?
06:24It tastes like chewing gum.
06:25It's chocolatey and sweet.
06:26Take a look at this picture.
06:27Has he ever heard of a marshmallow?
06:29He's never heard of a marshmallow.
06:30Oh, oh, oh.
06:33You want to try one?
06:35There you go.
06:35I'll pour some for you.
06:38It's so delicious.
06:39It's so delicious.
06:40All right, this guy speaks English very well.
06:42It's a lake of banana.
06:43Like a banana.
06:44Hold on, I got to try one of these for myself.
06:45American tries American candy.
06:49Mmm.
06:50I can see what he's talking about with the banana.
06:52A little bit.
06:53It does taste like roasted marshmallow.
06:54I love it.
06:55You like it?
06:55Yes, sir.
06:56Good.
06:56Nice meeting you.
06:58On to the next one.
06:59As the sun sets, we head to a street that specializes in traditional cooking known as
07:05Karahi, where pounds and pounds of meat sizzle after being chopped up by this man.
07:09Sir?
07:10These are gummy bears.
07:11Have you ever seen candy like this before?
07:13No, no, no, no.
07:14This is his first time trying these.
07:15It looks very tasty and it's very soft.
07:21Welcome.
07:21The next morning, we leave Jalalabad and head deeper into Afghanistan's countryside.
07:51Here, a group of welcoming villagers prepare an entire sheet.
07:55Meanwhile, I've prepared the best of my candy stash.
07:58This is a two-pound Cadbury, 200-year-old travel exclusive, I don't know, it's chocolate.
08:04Is this from the U.S.?
08:05Oh, born in Great Britain.
08:06All right.
08:07And can people try mostly American candy and sometimes candy from Great Britain?
08:11Give me a break.
08:11I bought all this in Dubai.
08:12So this is the next candy that's going to be tried.
08:14There is one small problem.
08:16The entire thing melted.
08:17It's a complete mess.
08:19So it's kind of a gift and kind of not.
08:23Let's see what they think.
08:24All right, my man, this is for you.
08:26It melted a little bit in the van.
08:27Will he still accept it?
08:28So he said it's okay.
08:31But before we reveal this two-pound giant Cadbury chocolate bar, I have a few more candies to pass around.
08:37All right, folks, we have our next candy right here.
08:39It is the Twix.
08:40Also melted, but it kind of re-hardened.
08:42And so we have these guys right here.
08:44They are busy at work.
08:45They look like they could use some Twix.
08:46Sir, have you ever seen this before?
08:49I haven't seen it before.
08:50Now, everybody knows that Twix is the perfect combination of chocolate, caramel, and crunchiness.
08:54But let's see what he thinks.
08:55He doesn't even know that it's melted.
08:57He said mm before he tasted it.
08:59Oh, he's tasting biscuits.
09:02Yeah, he's got the crunchy part figured out, the cookie inside.
09:05Oh, he doesn't know about caramel.
09:06So he's never had caramel before?
09:07No, he's never.
09:08How do you describe caramel?
09:10It would be like sugar, melted sugar.
09:20Oh, now he knows.
09:21It's made of sugar.
09:22Do you like it or not?
09:23Less of it.
09:24Take another bite, then.
09:28All right.
09:28He's a bit shy.
09:29This guy is used to hanging out with cheap body parts.
09:32Instead, right now, he's kind of being a candy reviewer for you guys.
09:35But he says he likes it.
09:36Big thumbs up.
09:36All right.
09:37Our next candy is Maltesers.
09:40I'm not sure that this is American.
09:41In the USA, we just call them Whoppers.
09:43Sir, I have some candy for you.
09:44Before you open it, can I be honest?
09:45I already opened the can, and I ate like three of them.
09:48It's okay.
09:49They have preserved their shape.
09:51They look fantastic.
09:51He has no idea what it's made of.
09:55Just sensing chocolate, that's it.
09:56Please, give it a try.
09:57So he's correct.
09:58He says it reminds him of chocolate, but what about the malted milk ball?
10:02Biscuit.
10:03He says like biscuity something.
10:05Yeah, that's basically it.
10:06He nailed it.
10:07But how could it be improved?
10:09If some fruit flavors are added inside it, it will be much better.
10:13Maltesers.
10:14Do some fruit flavors.
10:15You'll have at least one fan right here.
10:17All right.
10:17Thank you, sir.
10:18All right, folks.
10:18We have another candy right here.
10:20Bounty.
10:21Full of delicious coconut flavor.
10:22But do they have coconuts in this part of Afghanistan?
10:25This man right here will reveal all.
10:30Okay, thank you.
10:32Immediately took a bite.
10:33He said thank you.
10:34So, do you like it?
10:35Yes, he did.
10:36He likes sweet.
10:37That's why he loves it.
10:37Now, are coconuts common here?
10:41We don't have it our own.
10:42It's imported from India, but we love it.
10:44Do you want to try some more?
10:45Oh, shaking my hand.
10:47I like that too.
10:50This guy.
10:51Bounty, if you do a commercial in Afghanistan, please hire this man.
10:54Because it looks irresistible.
10:55Every time he eats it, I'm like, wait, do I have more?
10:57I want to eat that too.
10:58So, thumbs up, thumbs down.
11:01Oh, he got me.
11:03He got me.
11:04Very good.
11:05Now, let's get back to that giant Cadbury chocolate.
11:07Oh, God.
11:08It's so flexible.
11:09I literally put it in the fridge this morning and it melted already.
11:12Oh, my.
11:12It is like a pudding.
11:13Cadbury, what's up?
11:14Is this all made out of like palm oil or something?
11:17Why is it a complete liquid?
11:19Meanwhile, the spoon has arrived.
11:21He takes his spoon.
11:22He reaches inside.
11:22Let's give it a shot.
11:23Mmm, that looks positive.
11:28So, he's tasting a lot of chocolate plus some caramelization and some peanut taste also.
11:34Well, he might have a very refined palate.
11:36I'm pretty sure it's just milk chocolate.
11:38He's had chocolate before, right?
11:39Never.
11:39Oh, this is his first time trying something like this.
11:42I'm sorry, he's never had chocolate before?
11:44Not like Cadbury.
11:45Normally, he would have like small toffee chocolates and stuff.
11:47Okay, so he's never had a two-pound chocolate?
11:49No, never.
11:50First time.
11:50This is very exciting.
11:51Do you want to share it with the kids?
11:55You think it's sweet?
11:56Uh-oh.
11:57There you go.
11:57This one's smiling now.
11:58Good?
12:00All right.
12:01I think they like it.
12:02Who doesn't like chocolate?
12:03All right, so there you have it.
12:05Boom.
12:05So, that is Afghan people trying American candy for the first time.
12:08If you didn't see it already, we did a whole series here in Afghanistan.
12:11I went to Kabul.
12:12I went to Jalalabad.
12:13I went to here, where I am right now in the countryside.
12:15And over four videos, we explored all types of Afghan food that you can find in this country.
12:19So, that series is me trying their food.
12:22But in this video, it was fun to see Afghan people try my food.
12:25Candy that most people around the world think is way too sweet.
12:27Did they like it?
12:28To me, it appears they did.
12:29Now, there is a possibility that some people were just being overly polite.
12:32But I really think people here were digging the American candy.
12:34Next time I come back, I'll try it again.
12:36And I'll bring Sour Heads.
12:37And I'll bring Red Hot Tamales.
12:39We'll see if they like it then.
12:40Otherwise, I hope you enjoyed this video.
12:41Let me know what you thought.
12:42And let me know if there's other places around the world where I should be bringing candy for people to try that candy.
