Strathclyde University students hold rally for Palestine
Transcript
00:00We'll be free! Palestine! From the river to the sea! Palestine will be free! From the
00:09river to the sea! Palestine will be free! What's it got to do with you? Well, you are
00:15the new generation. You are the ones that are going to make a difference. October 7,
00:212023 was branded Israel's bloodiest day by the New York Times in an article they recently
00:28wrote about the anniversary of that day. For Israeli civilians, that story rings true.
00:35But for the Palestinians, however, the unfathomable horrors of mass death on this scale have been
00:42enacted upon them time and time again for the better half of a century. 15,000 people were
00:49killed in the Nakba of 1948. Another 18,000 Arabs died during the Six-Day War of 1968.
00:57In 2014, Operation Protective Edge, which was carried out by the IOF, killed 14,000 people.
01:08In the two years since the militant groups invaded Israel, we have witnessed the live-streamed
01:14murder of 70,000 Palestinians, 20,000 of which were children. The horrifying truth is that
01:20since its conception over a hundred years ago, the Zionist project has taken an unfathomable
01:27amount more. Us at the Strath-Palestine Solidarity Society have dedicated our time towards uncovering
01:33the complicity that our institution has in the genocide that is currently going on. For research,
01:38we have discovered millions invested in complicit companies. We have found trade partnerships
01:43and agreements between Strath-Clyde and arms companies and companies on the BDS list such
01:49as Domino's and Coca-Cola. Today, we call upon the university to put an end to its complicity.
01:56We call upon Strath-Clyde and its union to boycott. Every year, we see complicit companies like
02:03Domino's get invited onto campus for freshers' fairs. We see BAE Systems and Rolls Royce at
02:08our careers fairs. And we see Coca-Cola sold at the union and in our vending machines.
02:14As students here, we want to be proud of the institution that we've dedicated years of our
02:18lives towards attending. But as long as these companies have a presence on our campus, we
02:23cannot feel pride. It turns to shame. It turns to anger. After two long years of genocide,
02:29after 77 years of oppression, ethnic cleansing and apartheid, it's time our university commits
02:37itself to the morals it claims to uphold. So to the university management, to the management
02:42of the union and to the managers of the institutions that we are partnered with, we just have one
02:47thing to say to you. Strath-Clyde, shame on you. You have got blood on your hands too.
02:53From the sea to the river, Palestine will live forever. Free, free, Palestine, free,
03:06Palestine, free, free, Palestine, free, free, Palestine.
03:12Woo!
