Chat with the beekeepers who are producing honey at York Racecourse
Transcript
00:00Hi, so my name's Selina.
00:02Hi, I'm Harry.
00:03So we came here to the Yacht Race course probably about a year and a half ago.
00:08So I went on a beekeeping course.
00:11I don't have a garden.
00:13So I reached out to Phil, who's the director here,
00:17and he said, yeah, absolutely great for you to have some bees here.
00:21So we started off with one hive.
00:23We did have three at one point, but now we only have two.
00:27And yeah, we absolutely love it here.
00:31The team are absolutely amazing and they're really, really keen for us to kind of progress with,
00:36you know, more hives and getting other people involved and yeah.
00:41During the spring and summer months and sort of slightly into autumn,
00:43we're visiting once a week and we're doing hive inspections
00:46and making sure the bees are happy and got everything they need.
00:50It's like coming up, it's like a bit of therapy.
00:52You're in nature, you're with the bees, it's just us two.
00:56Really secluded and it's lovely.
00:58The honey that we've taken off the last couple of years has been like a summer flower honey.
01:02So it's been quite nice, bright, light in colour, really tasty, really sweet.
01:07We love it.
01:08And yeah, we got talking to Camilla about our honey and the honey she produces.
01:14And yeah, she's really knowledgeable.
01:16It was really exciting.
01:17It was, yeah, it was really good.
01:18She was saying that she loves trying like different honey in different regions.
01:22Yeah.
01:23And yeah, just like the differences of it.
01:24Yeah.
01:25It was really good.
01:26Yeah.
