00:00All right, good morning and welcome to market opening on our brand new collab show between
00:20Business Today and India Today TV.
00:22It's just after nine and we're here to get you ahead of the curve as markets kick off
00:26trading for the day.
00:27Let's take a look at what's hot in the corporate and financial space this morning.
00:32Asian markets climbed to record highs.
00:35Japan's Nikkei rallies after a pro-stimulus lawmaker is elected the new prime minister.
00:41Gold crosses the $3,900 per ounce level for the first time ever.
00:46Shutdown of the U.S. government doesn't bother investors much with U.S. futures up again.
00:51It promises to be an action-packed week with a humongous 33,000 crore rupees being raised via IPOs.
01:01The 15,000 crore plus Tata Capital public issue opens today with the LG Electronics issue opening tomorrow.
01:09Canara Rebecca, AMC, to also hit the street.
01:12IPO details to be announced this afternoon.
01:14Survey claims benefits of GST rate cuts are still not reaching the consumer.
01:22Only 1 in 10 consumers surveyed confirm receiving full benefit in packaged foods and medicines, while 20% receive partial benefits.
01:31The survey says retailers are reluctant to sell at lower prices without manufacturers making up for their losses.
01:37Civil aviation regulator says it's maintaining a rigorous oversight on air ticket prices during the festive season.
01:47DGCA gets the airlines to add around 1,750 flights to meet the surge in festival demand over the next few weeks.
01:58The 14th round of India-European Union free trade agreement talks in Brussels from today,
02:04efforts to resolve deadlock on auto tariffs.
02:08EU also seeking access into Indian agri-markets, including wines.
02:13India wants concessions in labor-intensive sectors and EU's strict carbon tax laws.
02:24Alright, let's take a look at the overnight setup.
02:27A quick look at Wall Street and Asia this morning.
02:29As we mentioned, really not too much impact of the government shutdown on Wall Street overnight.
02:34And Asia this morning also looking good, especially on account of the elections in Japan.
02:40They're going to get their first female prime minister, pro-stimulus government coming in.
02:45And we are seeing a nice move up on the Nikkei this morning.
02:49So I'm going to jump straight to Asian markets from here to give you a sense of what's happening there.
02:534% up on the Nikkei and looking really good as well in the morning.
02:58Alright, in fact, we saw that move come in right after the election results, while markets remain closed today in Asia.
03:05Let me welcome in our guest this morning, Shailendra Patnagar, Chief Analyst and Editor of Markets,
03:09as well as Avinash Gorakhshakar, who's joining us this morning as well, an expert on the markets.
03:14Gentlemen, apart from what's been happening overnight on the global indices,
03:18gold, silver, platinum, copper, look at the precious metals.
03:22Gold has surged to $3,950 an ounce, silver is shining bright at $48, platinum also trading strong, record highs across.
03:31What's going on here, Shail?
03:36Very good morning to you, Abha, and to all our viewers.
03:40The risk on trade as far as precious metals is concerned is getting better and better.
03:46There is a talk of silver crossing $50 an ounce and, of course, the price of $4,000 per ounce for gold is also being talked about.
03:56Very simply, fresh rate cuts coming in from Western central banks and, of course, this geopolitical issue is creating some sort of uncertainty in the market
04:09and, therefore, the love for gold and silver continues unabated.
04:13But for Indian markets, two days of gains, which is Friday and Thursday, about 400 points added on the Nifty.
04:20I am looking for a positive opening as far as markets are concerned.
04:24$25,000 is a resistance for the Nifty.
04:28Metals, banks, oil and gas and, of course, some parts of Nifty are likely to do well in the market today, Abha.
04:36All right. We've got lots to track today as well.
04:40And, you know, we've got, of course, a good pickup in some of the markets in Asia.
04:45There's a Nikkei for you.
04:46So we've got, you know, China, Korea, of course, shut.
04:49But Nikkei up nice 4.5% this morning on the back of those election results.
04:54Avinash, good morning.
04:55We're tracking, of course, global markets and the uptick there.
04:58We're tracking metals and new record highs across.
05:01Even crypto, Bitcoin, we're seeing action on that front as well.
05:05So clearly, momentum seems to be picking up as we're counting down to Diwali.
05:10Yeah, good morning, Abha.
05:12I think on the metal side, you know, with a weak US dollar, I think metal stocks have gone up.
05:18And I think this trend will continue.
05:20I think one of the notable stocks which I think investors should look at is Hindustan Zinc.
05:24You know, with gold and silver prices moving up.
05:27Hindustan Zinc is one of the largest producer of zinc.
05:29You know, the third or the fourth largest global player.
05:32And I think every increase in the silver price is going to add to the profitability of the company.
05:37So I think, you know, even at these levels, somebody wants to take a positional call
05:41purely based on quarter two numbers and the kind of outlook the company will share going forward.
05:45It looks that silver is also going to touch new highs.
05:48So to that extent, I think Hindustan Zinc could be a good positional bet in the medium term.
05:53All right.
05:54Keep an eye on Hindustan Zinc as we head into trade today.
05:56And let's take a look at the index as well.
05:59We're just set for, looks like a moderate uptick, just about flat in the pre-open right now.
06:05But, you know, we have started to see that little bit of a pickup after we saw about eight, nine days of range month,
06:10slightly, you know, slight bit of profit booking.
06:13And then we saw two days of gain.
06:14So let's see how we shape up in today's trade.
06:16A whole host of counters in the news as well.
06:18Marico is seeing a consolidated revenue growth touching the 30s.
06:22And you're on your numbers coming in there, expecting modest operating profit growth.
06:27But she tells you, of course, of the underlying volume growth in that particular segment as well.
06:33We've got Kotok Bank with a Q2 update as well.
06:35Business growth there seems to be ahead of expectation.
06:38Casa growth is continuing to improve on that front as well.
06:42It's improved to 11.2%.
06:43So that's looking good.
06:45HDFC Bank gross advances as of end of September are up 9.9%.
06:49So a couple of these banking names out with updates.
06:52And we'll also talk about Shobha.
06:53Great story there.
06:54Total sales area that's in the real estate space up 50%.
06:58And sales value up 61%.
07:01And the first half sales value up 30%.
07:04Close to 4,000 crores there.
07:06So lots of news makers in the markets today.
07:08I'm going to continue to run through this just until we hit the opening bell.
07:11And then we'll get some perspective from our experts as well on some of these names.
07:16Kalyan Jewelers, they've seen consolidated revenue growth at approximately 30% year-on-year.
07:21India Ops revenue growth of approximately 31% year-on-year as well.
07:25So looking good across in terms of some of these quarterly updates coming in.
07:29FSN e-commerce as well.
07:30It's seen accelerated growth momentum in Q2.
07:33And in fact, consolidated GMV growth is expected to be close to 30s compared to mid-20s in the last few quarters.
07:42So a lot of positive indicators at least coming in across some of these segments on the kind of growth momentum that they're seeing this past quarter at least.
07:52So we'll keep an eye on some of those.
07:53There we have it.
07:54Counting down to opening bell.
07:56Keep an eye on some of those counters affected, of course, by the rising metal prices.
08:01Hindustan Zinc will be in focus.
08:03We'll continue to keep an eye on financials.
08:05And, of course, a whole host of pockets which will be affected by festive momentum.
08:10Nifty's just flat on opening right now.
08:12Let's pull up some of the gainers and losers for you.
08:14See where the action is this morning.
08:16Banks steady this morning, up about 0.5% on the Nifty Bank as we've hit opening trade.
08:22Apollo Hospital's looking good.
08:23And we've seen some amount of traction in hospital stocks.
08:27Keep an eye on those given that the government has revised package rates for procedures under CGS Chess.
08:33And I'll talk more about that later.
08:35Financials clearly looking good.
08:36Tech Mahindra, Tara Motors on the gainers list this morning.
08:40Let's pull up some of the other trending stocks.
08:43Let's also look at what's on the downside as well.
08:45What's keeping the pressure on the index.
08:47Indicent Bank, one of the anomalies there from the banking space.
08:51Otherwise, you've got Grassim, Power Grid, Nestle and Tatara Steel.
08:56Some of the names on the downside this morning.
08:58Shail, what are you tracking on opening?
09:04Abhay, it's a muted start.
09:05But banks, banks and banks all the way.
09:08Led by HDFC Bank and ICICI today.
09:11HDFC Bank is contributing 15 points to Nifty's total of 15-point gain.
09:18And that's because Bernstein has come out with a report putting in a target of 11.50 from 9.71 today.
09:27And apart from that, you have hospitals, as you mentioned.
09:30Fortis, MaxHealth, Apollo are top three gainers in the FNO space.
09:35It's looking good.
09:37Alright, let's talk more about the news in the hospital space.
09:39The 25% hike could mean about a 2.5% revenue lift and 10% impact on EBITDA growth.
09:47So, hospitals with high exposure to government schemes, they were likely to benefit.
09:51We're already seeing the result coming in on some of those hospital stocks.
09:54As well as keep an eye on Yatharth, Narayana Health.
09:57Some of these will also see an impact on revenue.
10:00Avinash, I want to get your perspective on some of the hospital stocks as well.
10:03No, I think this is definitely a positive move.
10:07And I think as you mentioned, you know, larger players like Apollo, Fortis, Narayana Health Care,
10:12even the smaller ones like Yatharth Hospital, which is based in North India.
10:16I think all these hospital stocks would be in limelight today.
10:19I think overall, you know, this is an interesting space because the government's focus on health care is also increasing.
10:24And most importantly, specialty hospitals are going to gain more further traction
10:28because for them, the specialty business is going to, you know, deliver a better margin picture.
10:33So, I think, you know, investors should look at this as a very long-term portfolio kind of choice.
10:38Any dip in the market or, you know, if the market is flattish today,
10:41considering the large IPOs which are expected in the coming week,
10:44I think would be a good opportunity to accommodate these companies
10:47because quarter two is also going to be a much stronger quarter as compared to the first quarter.
10:51So, I think definitely we are structurally positive on the hospital stocks.
10:56Okay, we'll keep an eye on those hospital stocks this morning.
10:59But talking about IPOs, I do want to talk through all the action expected this week.
11:04A lot of companies gearing up to mobilize a whopping 33,000 crores through public issues.
11:10The lineup begins with WeWork India opening its 3,000 crore issue from October 3rd to 7th.
11:15Then comes the big one, Tara Capital, eyeing 15,511 crores between 6th to 8th.
11:21And close behind, LNG Electronics is set to raise 11,607 crores.
11:27Then we have Anantam Highways, Canra Rebeco, Rubicon Research.
11:30They'll all collectively add nearly 3,000 crores to total mobilization
11:35and will, of course, be bringing you all the latest across these major issues this week.
11:39Avinash, are you also of the opinion that markets may see a lot of action move to
11:43some of these primary issues and take away from the secondary markets?
11:47Or are you also looking at these as some attractive opportunities?
11:52No, I think clearly, you know, I think the primary market paper supply has been very huge
11:57and that is probably going to put some pressure on the secondary market.
12:00Typically, you know, what we see is investors sell in the secondary market
12:04and apply in the primary market.
12:05I think LNG should be a very interesting bet,
12:08although the fact is that it's a complete OFS offer.
12:11But I think if you look at the fundamentals of the company,
12:13it's a debt-free business, a very strong brand franchise in the consumer durable space.
12:18So I think, you know, probably this could be a very good long-term bet.
12:21As far as Tata Capital is also concerned, you know, listing gains may not happen.
12:25But I think typically one looks at the longer-term picture.
12:28Tata Capital also provides a good value for opportunity for long-term investors.
12:33And I think investors should look at these kind of IPOs, you know,
12:36from a slightly long-term perspective.
12:37I think listing gains may not happen, but at least from a long-term perspective,
12:41good value can be made.
12:43All right.
12:44Come back and talk about a little bit more on those housing stocks,
12:47but I want to go across to Shell for a moment just to see what else is standing out in the broader markets.
12:51Shell, what are some of the other buzzers you're noticing on your screen?
12:57Abha, I think a lot of action is on the metal space.
13:01Look at manganese ore.
13:03It's now at a fresh intraday high.
13:07400 for you.
13:09There is Hindustan Copper 1.7% higher.
13:13As Avinash had mentioned, Hindustan Zinc doing pretty well.
13:17You have a strong move coming into Vedanta, 471.65.
13:23And of course, no stopping Sriram Finance, remember?
13:26Last week, there was this news of a major buyout happening by a Japanese global financial giant MUFG into Sriram Finance.
13:36So, that's doing pretty well.
13:38Overall, the market is in reasonably good shape.
13:431,402 shares in the green, 900 in the red.
13:46And of course, you have the financial services index, the IT index, PSU banks doing well, mid-caps in top form.
13:56Profit booking on the side of auto and pharma.
13:58Auto is expected.
13:59We had a very sharp run-up in late September that's getting transported into profit booking.
14:08So, this is how it is at the moment, Abha.
14:11All right.
14:12Aviation also in focus this morning.
14:14Indian Airlines to add more than 1,700 flights to meet the festive rush.
14:19Let's go across to Karishma for more on this.
14:22The DGACA recently announced that it's going to be keeping a rigorous oversight of air ticket prices as well and monitoring capacity.
14:31Karishma, take us through what the announcement is and what you've picked up,
14:34how it's likely to impact what we see in terms of flights this season.
14:40Abha, very good morning to you.
14:41So, the announcement by Ministry of Civilization, DGCA, comes in the backdrop of usually it's procedural that during festive season,
14:50we see a shot in demand and higher air phase.
14:54And that is because of the fact that a lot of people want to get back to their homes for the weekend, for the Diwali season,
15:02and, of course, for the wedding season.
15:04Now, while let's put into the obvious fact that prices cannot be regulated by DGCA,
15:11they, of course, can push the airlines to ramp up their capacities and come up with additional flights in order to settle down the impact of airfares.
15:21However, there could be certain key routes like that of Bombay Delhi, say, Bombay-Hajibad, Delhi-Hajibad, or Bombay-Bangalore,
15:29the most tier one cities, especially where a lot of young people are working for their jobs.
15:36Those routes could still see an impact with higher airfares, while demand with the regional connectivity,
15:45especially by Indigo, which is going to deploy close to about, say, 750 additional flights, could actually stabilize the prices.
15:52All right. Thanks for that, Karishma.
15:56That's the news on the aviation front.
15:59Keep an eye on some of those counters, but also on your flights as you book to go home this Diwali.
16:05I want to get back to some of the other stocks in news.
16:08Shobha, Avinash, I want to get your view on that, because sales numbers look phenomenal for the counter.
16:13Shobha developers' sales area up 50%, sales value up 61%, and in the first half itself up 30%.
16:22Very solid, Abha. I think in terms of pre-sales, in terms of the overall outlook for the real estate market,
16:29I think typically real estate takes off in the second half of every financial year.
16:33We should be seeing good amount of festive sales even in the third quarter.
16:37And I think, you know, Shobha operates in the corporate market, especially Bangalore.
16:41They have now diversified to other states, but I think clearly Bangalore appears to be a promising market for them.
16:47I would not be surprised that compared to last year, this year would be a much better year in terms of both income
16:52as well as profitability.
16:53So I think, hopefully, if we get the stock at a lower level, I think it could be a good opportunity to accumulate.
16:58But definitely, I think we are structurally positive, yeah.
17:01Okay. What's your view on some of the FMCG names, Avinash?
17:04Because, you know, in terms of the update coming in from Marico,
17:07consolidated revenue growth is touching the 30s, even though they're still seeing some incremental pressure
17:12on gross margins, which they expect to ease off in the second half.
17:16If this is an indication, perhaps, of what we may see overall in the sector, what's your view on some of this outlook coming in?
17:22No, I think my guess is, see, Marico has given a very positive outlook, but across the FMCG value chain,
17:29I think you're going to see a better volume number in the third quarter.
17:33The GST cuts are going to be fully reflective in the third quarter.
17:36And I think once volume growth picks up to, like, 7-8%, that is definitely going to be a trigger point which the markets are going to watch.
17:43So I think, you know, players like Lever, you know, Daber, Marico, Godrej, Consumer, these could be interesting bets.
17:50But I think the market would obviously look at what kind of commentary comes the quarter-2 numbers.
17:54I think volume growth of 7-8% is definitely a very big positive indicator that the industry will now be looking at stronger growth going forward.
18:02All right, we also have a query coming in this morning.
18:07Satyam Chohan from Pune has said that after the revamp of CGHS, where should I invest apart from hospitals?
18:14Will diagnostic sector also benefit from this move?
18:17Avinash, you want to answer that or take that question for Satyam?
18:22I think, see, from a longer-term perspective, my sense is that, you know, autos and auto components, you know,
18:29I think this is one sector which has underperformed for the last three to four years.
18:32You're going to see a big bounce back in demand.
18:35Already we have seen record numbers in the month of September for, you know, companies like M&M, Maruti, or for that reason, Hyundai.
18:42I would say that, you know, these are very good bets if one takes a longer-term view.
18:45But yes, the auto component companies like Unomenda or maybe Sundaram Fastener or typically even a Jamna Auto, you know,
18:53all these which are catering to the domestic player are definitely going to get a significant positive rub-up.
18:59So I think auto component looks interesting if the investor has a time frame of 12 to 15 months.
19:05All right. Thanks for that, Avinash.
19:07Let's also pull up Nika or FSN e-commerce because, again, on the Q2 update, the gross momentum that they've highlighted,
19:14I think the stock is moving up this morning.
19:17Shell, also want to come to you in terms of some of the other movers you're spotting.
19:20But Nika at least is looking pretty strong today.
19:23Absolutely, Abha.
19:28And it's the entire consumer space and the consumer financing space that's doing pretty well.
19:35Look at how Bajaj Finance is moving.
19:37Look at how changes are happening in mid-cap, you know, companies in the NBFC space, CGCL, to point out.
19:48A very strong move there because the festival season is an on-way.
19:52And you will see a lot of financing deals coming your way.
19:56So, 1,007 for Bajaj Finance on the screen.
20:01Poonawala Finance, fresh record high, 548.
20:04A strong move coming into CGCL, which was earlier Capri Global.
20:08So, these are the companies that are doing pretty well at 9.27.
20:12And one very, very quick view on the new highs that have come into the market at this point of time.
20:20You have Fortis from the hospital space.
20:23Muthoot Finance from the gold space.
20:26Indian Bank from the banking space.
20:29AB Capital and L&D Finance.
20:31Abha.
20:31All right, Shail, Avinash, thanks so much for joining us this morning and taking us through the Monday Morning Trends as well as Outlook.
20:39Lots coming up this week as well.
20:4233,000 crore rupees being raised by six main board IPOs.
20:47Keep an eye on that.
20:48TCS will be kicking off earnings season as always on October 9th.
20:52That's the big one that we'll be tracking there.
20:54US FOMC Meet Minutes will be released on October 8th.
20:58And the much-awaited Navi Mumbai Airport will be inaugurated on October 8th.
21:03Also, the UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer will be visiting India on October 8th and 9th.
21:09So, event-heavy week and we'll, of course, be top of all of that for you.
21:12Thanks so much for watching.
21:14Do stay tuned.
21:14We'll continue to track the market closing action for you as well at 3 o'clock.
21:18That's all from me for now.
21:20Thanks for watching.
