Toddler "Helps" Load Bottles for Cash! Containers for Change QLD Recycling Trip

Join me for a real-life recycling moment! My little one enthusiastically "helps" me load up our bags of empty containers for Queensland's Containers for Change program.  We then took our big bags of empties to the Southport Bottles and Cans Return Depot to cash them in. Each container gets us a 10-cent refund, which goes straight into my bank account! Plus, the satisfaction of getting paid and knowing we are actively reducing household waste is huge.  This simple, everyday activity is a fantastic way to teach kids early on that small actions make a big difference for our environment. 00:00now what are you trying to find a specific bottle in here look at our collection we've got so many

00:08now so these are all the bottles we've been collecting very hard for containers for change

00:14we started buckling this bag first but then we needed a second bag and the reason we've

00:21been collecting so many at once now is because containers for change are so good not only do

00:28you make money obviously on bottles that you drop off and usually I just drop off little bits and

00:33pieces with Spencer because we've got a reverse vending machine at the shopping center just across

00:38the road from us but this month containers for change are running a competition so if you return

00:46100 bottles at once which we're going to be doing today you go into the draw to win $10,000 so that

00:54would be awesome wouldn't it so we've been collecting these bottles very hard and we're

01:01not going to go to the normal reverse vending machine though with all these bottles we're

01:05actually going to go to the drop-off depot here in Southport so that's an option here on the Gold Coast

01:12we've got the reverse vending machines which are really fun can I say like you feed bottles in and

01:18they add money to your account which like you can't feed it it's really cool but now we're going to go to

01:24the actual depot which is where you can go if you've got a lot of bottles and they'll then do

01:28the sorting and counting for you so a little bit of a cheat today but we do have we did get the

01:34hundred so that's what we've been collecting for excuse my voice a virus it is winter but anyway look

01:42do you want to help mummy carry this carry this big bag well how about you carry that bottle and I'm

01:47gonna get this huge bag it feels like um it feels like I'm Santa Claus actually with these big bags

01:55in fact you know what we should keep these bags for Christmas they look like good bags to put your

02:02toys in all right let's go because we're gonna we're gonna need to put our shoes on and we're gonna bring all

02:09these bottles come on do you want to bring that bottle for mummy or do you want to put it in there

02:13oh good shot come on this way up that's the way up that's the way all right let's go

03:35so we're at the depot now so as you can see it's been really helpful

03:39and um and so here there's um rather than the reverse ending machine it's a bigger machine obviously

03:46so we're going to put all our bottles in there

03:50and then i'm going to start popping them in and it's going to give me the total

03:55and then we'll um

04:02and then we're going to bring a receipt over and get it recorded into the

04:11hand potatoes for change queue

04:24so now we can enter the competition

04:29i think the cross for 10 000

04:41and look now we've still got all these

04:43bottles

04:45so just throw money into our bank account

04:47123 bottles so now i'm going to press payout

05:02so now i'm going to go and find the supervisor again because they're going to just check the receipt

05:16and um put the money in the account and enter us for the competition

05:18tada so that's all done so that's really exciting so we've gone into the competition

05:29for the ten thousand dollar prize let's really hope we win i mean chances are very small

05:34but um that was twelve dollars thirty that now just goes into our bank account as well so that's

05:40going to help with expenses for the kids school fees all that blah blah but also it's just

05:46satisfying and fun to then recycle your plastic and look they gave me a stack of um

05:51white bags or more bottles so we're going to be collecting more

05:59and it makes you feel so good to do something for the environment as well like this it's just

06:04you can't beat this scheme it is just really awesome so if you've got any sort of scheme in

06:10your area like this go out collect some bottles and return them and do something good for your bank

06:16account and the bank account and the planet
