00:10What a series so fondly in as we debrief that dramatic last episode with all our finalists. Wilkin. Are you following this so far?

00:19Fair play to you. But before we go any further

00:21If you haven't watched the final episode of the traitors do that now on the RT player as this episode will be dropping more truth bombs than iron at a round table

00:30Coming up, we will have Siobhan McSweeney here to give us the lowdown and all the carry-on in the castle

00:36We will chat to the traitors turned faithful slayers Nick and Ben to unpack that final day and

00:42The winners Vanessa Ian and Kelly will be here for their first ever interview. Don't go anywhere

00:58But now we are joined by the queen of the castle the magnificent Siobhan McSweeney

01:23Siobhan how are you first of all I am

01:28Overwhelmed and bewildered actually

01:31I'm really it's this is the first time I've seen I've just called them my babies

01:35I've just seen all the contestants there and it's really gorgeous to see them all and

01:40I have been away in a bubble filming something else

01:44So I really haven't been you have many you don't know the mania that is sweeping across this country

01:49I I really don't imagine if all four Beatles were just potty. That's basically

01:55That's the level of hysteria we're managing all the number of films we'd have about

02:01Well that finale was unbelievable was it as emotional for you as it was for the rest of us. Yes. Yes, I think I think what um oh

02:09Oh, I I think what people need to

02:13Understand is that we all went through and I think our lovely contestants would agree

02:19The production team and myself and we we went through it with them. We were working the same hours. I mean nobody was working as hard as potty

02:28Although nobody ate as much as potty either

02:31So I think he's he got his wages from sandwiches

02:34Well, he needed the energy the poor man didn't sleep more than 45 minutes for two weeks

02:38I think but we were all doing it together and it like it really felt like we were together. So

02:45It by the end we were all at our very last shred of sanity. Yeah. Yeah, we were all demented

02:51The series was very Irish from the cupola fuckle to the cup on tea to the ole ole and don't even talk about the Carson

03:46What is it about the show that made it feel particularly Irish to you?

03:50Well, I think I think we it's such a well-known franchise really and the whole challenge is to

03:58For it to be as good as the other one. Yeah, and also to put our own mark on it really

04:02So it was really lovely that we were able to have the cup of fuckle that we a lot of the iconography was very Celtic

04:08The ohm I love the ohm. Yeah, yeah

04:11And and lots of other things like even the the school benches BQ

04:15Yeah, with the little ink pots. That's right. Yeah PTSD getting into them, you know

04:20I couldn't get into them then can't get into them now

04:23But for me personally it had to do with like all the Irish designers that I really wanted to

04:29Can we have a round of applause for the outfits?

04:40There's such

04:41There's such a wealth of talent in this country and we tend to think that we know what that is because we're usually trying to sell it to the yanks

04:50Yeah, but actually there is such a wealth of talent when it comes to

04:54Textiles and fashion and it's not just literature

04:58But if you noticed even last night's episode a beautiful kimono that I was wearing had Cara Dielish written on it

05:04And we had felt or written on things there were there were little Easter eggs there that only added to the design

05:10So I'm really proud that I got to on my

05:14Lumpen beautiful self got to showcase a few Irish designers, you know

05:19Well, they were fabulous I've got to say thank you very much

05:21We have to talk about our three O.G. Traders

05:27O.G. Crew starting with the only female traitor

05:33You weren't like that before I tell you

05:38Starting with our only female traitor Caitlin. Yeah, how do you think she managed with the other two lads on either side?

05:44There was not a bother to her what I what made me giggle about Caitlin was the way she came in like Pippi Longstocking

05:54I wear pigtails. I must be non-threatening one of the smartest most powerful

06:02Women I know just looking at her don't don't don't don't don't don't absolutely extraordinary

06:07But God bless you for thinking a few flowery dresses, but

06:11Convince us otherwise, but by God you were well able well able for for the two boys and I mean like

06:17Eamon was

06:20Extraordinary, I mean, I think Eamon like the biggest villain we've had ever. Yeah, I mean move over Cromwell

06:31But what I loved about Eamon is that Eamon for me and he's just behind the camera there so I can't see him

06:36Is he glaring at me? No

06:38beautiful boy and

06:41The thing about Eamon which I found so interesting because remember I was learning along with you as well

06:46You know like we were all guinea pigs this time around weren't we next year if there is one next year

06:52What'll it be like? Yeah, anyway

06:55Hats lots of hats

06:57But Eamon went in with a game plan didn't he and he was like and I was like there's something about this show

07:03That if you go in with a game plan, you're almost like look at Pauldy. I don't think Pauldy

07:09went in with a game plan

07:11And look how long he lasted so it's almost a question of being able to adapt on the hoof

07:16You know there was a real three different approaches to

07:19Pauldy sort of approached you like a jazz musician

07:22Like he was just going day by day what's happening now? Okay, I'm moving this way all right now. I'm gonna move this way

07:27Yeah, Eamon Eamon had a strict

07:30Sort of plan that he wasn't gonna deviate from and I wonder whether that was how he was found out at the end

07:37You know like do you need to be more flexible? It's very interesting, but also how are you to know until you go in there?

07:42Do you think Pauldy's a genius

07:54Will you be voting for Pauldy in the coming election? Oh, but I'm running his campaign

08:28There's there's two and my favorite what I mean is sort of like people who I wish I saw a bit more like Diane

08:34You were absolutely wonderful and Diane for me you are the epitome of a kind of Irish woman that I don't see enough of on telly

08:42And you should have been there longer and also what I loved about you is that you were completely authentically yourself

08:49And so the eyebrows going up

08:57You were absolutely outraged why are they trying that's the game Diane that's the game

09:04And no, I thought you were wonderful and I was gutted to see you go you have you've an absolutely wonderful energy about you

09:11And I enjoyed you immensely. I also really enjoyed Joe

09:18And I mean I say I I I you know I'm picking the two of these obviously, you know that I loved every single one of you and

09:36You've been their mother figure for the last four weeks and that is why we're a nation of dysfunctional people

09:41But that final day was incredibly tense. Yeah, it kind of became the girls versus the boys

09:48Do you have any inclination as which way it was going to go?

09:51No, I didn't but like that was this the whole way through we I've never I've never done a job like this before and by the end

10:00I was saying I will never do it

10:02Like this again because you would start your day

10:05In the middle of the night and you did not know when you were going to finish work for that day

10:10Yeah, you just did not know you would think every single time I went into the round table going I know what's going to happen

10:17The production team would go we know what's going to happen

10:19We know how many cars we need or what a Lola and like maybe tell catering we don't need the sandwiches at midnight or what no

10:26It would all change we could never ever ever call it. I think that's why it was such an enjoyable show. Yeah

10:34Yeah, you just couldn't tell well you brought so much to this series from your fabulous costumes to your fierce one-liners

13:35What a series you both had uh from faithfuls to traitors but at least you had each other

13:41So when exactly did you both realize that you'd found the one

13:55No i actually nick had done it actually i think when we got a trailer before i can't remember which one and i was like like that

14:01So then it was like when we caught another one was like nick come on

14:06It was a beautiful synchronization i gotta say you got so far in the game lads did you get too cocky in the end

14:20Describe how you were feeling on that last day

14:24Well it was a mixed emotion and we obviously the admission was incredible it was incredible to share with obviously our friends

14:31Um but there's the thought in the back of your mind of what's to come and every round table was so intense so

14:38We knew eventually what was to come and uh

14:41Yeah and also you're thinking about what happened the previous night as well like that so

14:45Kind of when everyone's coming in for breakfast no one's as you can see as you can see no one's really talking or

14:51It was awkward

14:52It was like the breakfast after a wedding after somebody like punched a bro

14:59Nick i gotta say though i like that last round table where there was a lot of heat on you

15:06And they were on you but you remained i gotta say very very cool and collective i i don't know i would have crumbled

15:13Yeah i probably pushed about a little bit too far for that i'm probably

15:18God much but like i had to fight my corner i had to go for it

15:20So it was never gonna back down we wanted to we wanted to give it our all so uh

15:25All or nothing have to try and win but ultimately they called us out in our bs

15:28We were both shocked with that though because when we were talking we thought they were gonna come for me

15:32So then you can see actually in the show when they say when i think someone goes for nick

15:37And he's like

15:38Because he wasn't expecting

15:39Because we thought they were coming for me

15:40We were ready to defend ben so i had like this pitch for ben i was like let's go and then she comes to me and i was like oh

15:45Fuck

15:47Well we got a bone to pick with you over faye

15:49Like lads you backstabbed your best friend how could you have done that for

15:54It's um it's just like a panto audience

15:58Not good we um yeah we did we struggled with this with this one for ages because obviously the name of the game is to get to the final and get the money and

16:06We were on one side faye was on the other so for us to win it we would have to do it eventually

16:11So it was a mercy killing yeah

16:13Well we actually didn't know what would be worse taking her to the final and having to do it or or doing it then but

16:18So basically you did her a favor you're welcome

16:27Yeah no it was it was horrible like we felt terrible for what we did yeah like you could see in our reaction

16:31We totally see we didn't want to do it but it is still just a game so do you do you think though if you kept her in you could have won 100%

16:46The fact that we don't know we oh well i still felt anyway we could still do that and possibly win the game as well

16:53We might have had a better chance if we had kept there but yeah

16:55You don't know it felt like it just slipped away when we did it though it was it it just with how strong

17:00Owen was at that table she was incredible and it just felt like we had to go that way to save face a little bit

17:06And when when when we obviously got rid of faye then it was kind of like okay

17:10We're we're really going to struggle now to pull the wool over there they were so smart those three of them were so smart

17:15So hard to get by them and obviously they they they caught us

17:19Well nick you were the man responsible for taking out future president of this country potty

17:23Uh have you anything to say to the nation who are still in mourning i know it's tough uh potty was potty was potty

17:32That could mean anything and i meant exactly that

17:37No potty potty played a brilliant game like

17:39I didn't mean to go for i wanted to like go on longer with potty and obviously pat called me out

17:45Um the day before with the letter rip i had andrew there and i should have the next day gone for potty

17:50But i didn't because i i was trying to be loyal in that moment so it kind of came across like i was going

17:55For potty and he he thought i was going for him but i really wasn't but i was just trying to

17:59Make sure there was no suspicion on me so it had to go that way

18:52Yeah i found it really difficult i really did i struggled with it

18:55Obviously me forced murder with amy is me forced so i was kind of a bit excited with that one

19:01Everyone remembers their first time

19:05But um no after that yeah i struggled with it but not even just with the murders being a traitor

19:10with the banishments and knowing that they're not a traitor and people are going after them and

19:16Seeing how upset they get like i did actually struggle but it was difficult but

19:19Again you just have to keep on trying to bring it back that it's a game it's a game but

19:23In the moment it is it is really difficult and you struggle

19:26Well nick you had main character energy from day one let's remind ourselves

19:32Who do you think is the leader of the group move faster nick what are you at what do you mean what am i at

19:38Well there's one lie on top of another i'm sick of being a traitor

19:41And i'm just going to say to you eamon feel me once shame on me but feel me twice

19:47Dear nick we wish to recruit you obviously went into the room i just gave the big one on the camera

19:53At this stage the game is going to turn ugly and you're going to have to start eliminating

20:33So nick what you know what was it like watching that back it was unbelievable and

20:54um i i don't sure that didn't look like main character mainly main clown energy but

20:59it was good fun um to to share the experience with the 24 cast members was epic they're all i'm so

21:05close to them all they're all legends every single one of them um obviously had a special experience

21:09with ben which was incredible

21:10uh

21:16but it was yeah the hold your like i played it as a game i probably pushed the boundaries of a lot of

21:20things she won't give us a break well ben you were voted the best at the missions you're an army

21:28man uh you're used to pressure let's remind ourselves of you taking control of the situation

21:33joe go in the middle you go on the left me and christine will go on the right joe you go on the

21:39middle you go on the left i'm not on the left yeah this is the mission that i'm buzzing for yeah as

21:43soon as you hear a bit of water i'm all over it yeah put joe in the middle

21:51we have to carry it guys we have to carry it

21:57we have to carry it back

22:06now uh ben ben i'm no military strategist but i know that the first step to sailing is you put

22:14the boat in the water was that the hardest two weeks of work you've done since joining the army

22:20christine always likes me about it but i always said to her i'm in the army i'm not in the navy

22:24like go on and you're not going to be anytime soon let's talk about that final day and that final

22:31round table nick it all fell apart for you at that round table like what was your game plan going

22:35in game plan was kelly from the get-go we knew it was 2v2 so just tried to turn kelly in some way

22:41or another um we said we'd go for vanessa over a win and just turn kelly but she saw right through

22:46us and you thought the heat was on ben going in that was the big problem we like we were kind of

22:51building ben's defense so when ian brought it to me i was going oh no like what do i even say here

22:56and she was so strong it was impossible to when ian puts those lasers on you i'd say

23:00your heart just shrinks sinking behind the round table ben you met it one step further to end game

23:07what was it like standing there as the last traitor without your boy yeah i know yeah like and to be

23:12fair he left a little breadcrum for me like with the the potty comment and uh i still knew the game was

23:18up anyway like i still knew that the girls are gonna get it right like they were they were brilliant

23:22they copped it once kelly had kind of made her mind up like i kind of knew what way it was going

23:27to happen did you ever think you know i can win this no no well nick you gave us one of the most

23:36memorable moments on the show would you mind one last time giving us the big one

24:34i think it's like living it for the second time again so yeah definitely

25:04and you get to enjoy it with the full audience as well yes uh kelly now i you said on the show

25:10that if you won you would pay off your parents mortgage are you going to keep that promise

25:15absolutely i'm a woman of my word no doubt about it can you

25:22every that's every parent's dream that's every parent's dream can you reveal how much is left on the

25:28mortgage turns out and i didn't know this a whopping 50 euro so easy easy yeah five zero yeah uh you

25:38definitely knew that making that yeah yeah uh kelly uh when you were filming the show what did you tell

25:44your friends and family you were doing um to be honest it was kind of easy for me so i told them i was

25:49just going to work in galway but i had been like planting the seed because the whole thing for me was

25:54none of my friends would believe that i would go off my phone for two weeks willingly and i couldn't

25:58say i was going on a retreat because they wouldn't believe me about that either so i had to kind of

26:02i started planting seeds really early on and it's like something my dad would do that he would like

26:06challenge me so i was like you know what girls my dad has been saying like i bet you like 200 quid you

26:11can't go off your phone for two weeks so i was like you know what i'll take that bet and so yeah now

26:16they think i'm 200 euro richer like little do they know a little bit more than 200 euro but

26:22siobhan optimal optimal are you delighted i am actually i am i am delighted the three of you one

26:34but like because it felt towards the end it just felt like you know that girl on girl i was gonna say

26:43different show but you know turning on each other and sort of accusing each other and it's

26:50all very understandable misunderstandings and all this stuff and the two boils they're going can't

26:56believe we're getting away with it don't move don't say anything don't say anything if you move they

27:02might catch you and then go for you whatever so i was really really i just didn't think it would happen

27:09and iron watching the final there and just seeing you at the breakfast table go like the meme that we

27:18all can think of where she went that would be she got it yeah because you have to to remember i didn't

27:27see everything as much as i pretended i saw everything i was probably putting a hat on in another room

27:32somewhere so i didn't know when the turn happened when he so slowly but ever like brought the ship

27:39around very slowly and started edging towards the iceberg yeah it was not away from the i think it

27:46was i remember kelly you said at breakfast like oh maybe it's the two lads i just went oh yeah it was the

27:55first time we were like comparing notes and we're like pause and then we're like oh no yeah we've done

28:03that stuff yeah were you sure at that moment as soon as the penny dropped is that the way your brain

28:09goes you go oh don't don't don't don't damn yeah definitely knew then i was sure and then obviously

28:16ben walks in after i'm like oh we're just talking about you so like did you did you notice a change in

28:23in the well i suppose no still i'm still just worried about myself like you could see the

28:27breakfast before when i messed up with kelly's all on just like that was another great meme actually

28:32of being just going all right

28:38kelly you had all the power going into that last day with this you the swing vote yeah crazy like a lot

28:43of pressure you had a big decision to make and it finally all clicked into place yeah my thing with

28:4940 years right he was like protect the girls fuck the lads and then all of a sudden he has vanessa's

28:55name down and then just throwing the blame on me he was definitely kind of trying to sway my

29:00decision and then he just kind of realized okay i'm gone so i'll throw out the person i'm angry

29:05his aunt's name kind of thing yeah or the person who recruited to name yeah i don't know

29:15as in what i'm thinking because i'd yeah that was a sweet little trap you set there for nick like

29:27you i like the little side eye where you're like and he was like yeah well yeah i was focused on the

29:32next thing i was going to say i was like yeah yeah yeah what am i gonna say you still had potty's

29:36name ready to go yeah yeah kelly was that the turning point for you to be honest still no like

29:41that entire character and he was so crazy like i was like okay well it's nick 100 but i still like

29:46maybe he's not working with ben maybe like it was just such a bigger picture then that i felt like i had

29:50to piece together and then i was like maybe he's like there was just so many i was just saying so

29:55much crap as well i'd say she was just dizzy nearly listening yeah because he was going one way to

29:58another and he came back to me and was like oh man i've been working on kelly in the car and i was

30:02going around yeah i don't know that was like that was the end of us yeah i think i have her been

30:08yeah yeah come on come on yeah i think we had a chance here i think we had a chance victory

30:14laugh girls like you're a idiot oyan were were the three of you strategizing that final day um

30:19we didn't really talk about game plan honestly i think we just kind of said nick's name and we're

30:24like okay and that was it we just went into the into the round table and we were just like okay we're

30:30just gonna grasp uh and straws really and just try our best to pin it on nick because we really did

30:36feel like well myself i felt it was nick at that point and i was like i'm not like it's not gonna be

30:42me leaving the round table it's gonna be nick so bad place to be yeah that last round table was

30:49so tense once nick was banished ben like what was going through your head oh so i put my head down

30:57and i was like really pretend like you're shocked with that nick or something like that but then i

31:01stayed there for that long that i was like well i can't celebrate now either so i just stayed there

31:05for an extra and i was like what am i going to do here and i think it was about five minutes and i'm

31:09still just like that you could have gave a very very sad arrow yeah straight his heart

31:18kelly and ian like ye were celebrating like mad vanessa you reacted very differently were you just

31:24done at that point i was done about three days before like i was like begging production to go

31:29home like i just wasn't having it anymore it was just so much tougher than it was and the last two days

31:35we'd just been so wrong and i was just so deflated and i was sick of being in the middle of everything

31:40and it's just like even going into the round table like even coming into breakfast actually i just

31:44didn't care like i really didn't care anymore i actually thought nick was gonna win and actually

31:49like like convince kelly because like kelly had not been she'd voted for me what twice i think she'd

31:55already told me she didn't like trust me and i actually didn't even bother trying to convince kelly like

34:44at you the day before and all but it's like when it came to just ben it's like i knew logically it

34:49makes sense for nick to have recruited him or for them to have been working together but i just couldn't

34:53i couldn't fathom him being it and when he wrote that i just absolutely broke down because at that stage

34:58it's like it's no longer a game it's now it's money yeah you know i mean like he's told me about his

35:02family he's told me about his kids told me about the plans that he has and it's like am i gonna

35:06actually do this to somebody i'm seeing as a friend it's about two personal i mean exactly and it's

35:10like i'm already an emotional wreck but that just that was it it done me like kelly that last day

35:40we were like kids in a playground running around the place hiding under the couch like it was

35:45the cameraman trying to chase us yeah yeah yeah ben's like behind the door i didn't find him one day

35:50but i get pulled for an interview and the ones they're looking for me for ages but i'm upstairs

35:53i'm like this is unbelievable i mean the other option was looking at ben and nick do you push-ups

36:00again like i mean well like me sitting on bed while he does it i'd love if uh wilkin was still somehow

36:07in the castle when you're playing hide and seek he was now now ian the oracle you were so perceptive

36:15wow wow but i was trying to think of it from a different point of view and i'm thinking because

36:23amen i'm very hung up on him being a traitor and then caitlyn too is on my radar i'm thinking is this

37:16well there's a fee for that um clairvoyance i'd say it's more just a lot of thinking i spent a lot

37:25of time in my head in the castle um and with my journal at night so it was really just working

37:33backwards and every single day i'd go back and just like write down the hints and the clues that i would

37:37find and then i was kind of just like work it all together so at the beginning i kind of wrote

37:41down the people's names who i thought were traders who could be traders and then people's names who

37:45i thought just couldn't and i actually had all the traders on the people that could be traders on

37:50my list so i kind of like work backwards that way and then yeah pretty much that's how it works

37:58yeah unbelievable well i think i think i speak for the audience in saying that you're all winners
