00:00It was 2004 and the height of David Beckham's fame when claims of an affair first emerged.
00:07Now, for the first time, David and his wife, Victoria, have spoken about the impact days of headlines had on their relationship.
00:15In a new Netflix documentary released today, Victoria describes feeling like the world was against them.
00:22But, as Faye Barker explains, it leaves many questions unanswered.
00:27The stories of alleged affairs in the marriage of Britain's golden couple in 2004 made headlines for weeks.
00:35Allegations of extramarital affairs have consumed acres of newsprint.
00:40Nearly two decades later, the Beckhams have spoken about that time in a four-part Netflix documentary and the effect the scrutiny had on their lives.
00:49It was the hardest period for us because it felt like the world was against us.
00:55And here's the thing, we were against each other.
00:59I don't know how we got through it, in all honesty.
01:02We're fighters.
01:04And at that time, we needed to fight for each other.
01:07We needed to fight for our family.
01:09The name of the so-called other woman, the Beckhams' PA, Rebecca Luz, wasn't out of the press at the time.
01:16But it's a name that isn't mentioned in the documentary.
01:20And it's not hard to see why, when this is a series that's been promoted by Brand Beckham,
01:25with all of the family showing a very united front at its launch last night.
01:30The enemy portrayed here, back in 2004, is the media intrusion.
01:41It was probably, if I'm being honest, the most unhappy I have ever been in my entire life.
01:47I felt physically sick every day, when I opened my eyes.
01:53How am I going to do this?
01:55The scale of David's fame is also addressed, and where his priorities were around the time their third son, Cruz, was born.
02:03They told me that I can go in, you know, Monday morning, and I can have the baby.
02:08And he said, yeah, the thing is, is that I can't do that, because I've got to shoot.
02:13I said, what do you mean you want to shoot?
02:15Yeah, I've got to do a photo shoot with Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce.
02:20Ultimately, we're shown a strong marriage and strong family values,
02:24from a couple who are always watched and forever etched into this country's DNA.
02:30Faye Barker, ITV News.
02:33Mary's here with the latest at 6.30 from me.
02:37Bye-bye.
