00:00Hello, I'm Rick Ratlitz saying welcome to the dog show.
00:05My dad's friend Rick was a dog show legend.
00:08People wanted their dogs in print.
00:12Well, see, that's what I do. I find a good dog story.
00:15All the things he was doing became mainstream.
00:19And when I was a kid, Rick sent me postcards from around the world.
00:23This is Rick Ratlitz at the Cross Dog Show in London, England.
00:26But when I was older, Rick somehow lost everything.
00:30What the hell happened?
00:33Everybody knew that Rick had a storage unit
00:35where he held on to all of his grandeur of days past,
00:40but nobody knew where it was at.
00:44The title of this book is The Year of the Dog by Rick Ratlitz.
00:48My first year in business caused me a bleeding ulcer.
00:51My gosh.
00:52A lousy personal life.
00:54Unbelievable.
00:54But those are small prices to pay for success.
00:57Just keep shooting. Let's do this again.
00:59His big regret was selling the K-9 Chronicle.
01:02He told me I should have never done that.
01:05I feel just a little foolish doing this.
01:08Actually, I feel a lot foolish.
01:11Dear Jesse,
01:13I used to think that I would win in the long run.
01:16But then I went belly up before I peaked.
01:19And it had been one hell of a ride.
01:21I never looked down on you,
01:23but it's the first time I've looked up to you.
01:25Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
