00:00
Baggies fans, a really, really miserable day here at the Den where Millwall have run out 3-0 winners against Albion.
00:07
Deserved 3-0 winners, really. I mean, you could argue on the balance of play, the hosts were possibly worth more than that three-goal margin.
00:15
Albion were bad. That was very poor today. You know, just finishing up Ryan Mason's called it the poorest performance of the season.
00:21
I think that was clear to everybody. He said his players, his side got exactly what they deserved today here in London.
00:27
Absolutely nothing. Said they were second best throughout, start to finish, across the hole, every department of the pitch.
00:34
It was really poor. And, you know, it was a sold-out ground today here at the Den.
00:39
Obviously, both teams coming off the back of Wednesday games. Millwall here got a paste in by Coventry on Wednesday night.
00:47
Obviously, high-flying Coventry. So, they were here looking to respond clearly.
00:50
Albion obviously winners at Norwich, that 1-0 victory, and they could not back it up here.
00:55
It really, it never got going, and it never got any better, quite frankly.
00:59
It was really poor. As I say, sold out, 2,000-plus in the away end, and they were not happy.
01:06
I mean, those that were still there at the full-time whistle, and there were not too many at all,
01:11
were actually waving some of the Albion players away.
01:14
You know, players that still, obviously, rightly applauded at full-time.
01:18
The fans were not impressed or having any of that.
01:22
And, as I say, a lot, a good number had left well before full-time, understandably,
01:26
to try somehow and beat the traffic and get home or, you know, get on the rail network back up to the black country in the West Mid.
01:33
It was poor. It was really poor.
01:36
And it's, you know, there's no way to sign off into the international break, is it?
01:40
Obviously, two weeks now until the next game, got two weeks to stew on this in training.
01:45
So, it's, I think, probably not a reality check, really, just a lesson in, you know,
01:50
I think we all know what it takes to come here.
01:52
Look, I mean, look at the skies behind me.
01:54
We know about Storm Amy and the wind that's going on today.
01:56
Conditions were terrible, but they were terrible for both teams.
01:59
OK, you would say, look, Millwall thrive on set pieces, high balls.
02:02
There were just dozens and dozens of those into Albion's box, and they just dealt with none of them, really.
02:08
But, look, Albion, Ryan Mason said to me they didn't earn the right to play.
02:12
When they did have a chance to use the ball, Albion, they just didn't use it quickly enough, crisply enough.
02:17
They didn't create anything.
02:18
There was one shot on target today for West Brom, and I'll be honest, I couldn't remember it.
02:21
I thought it was zero.
02:23
It really was sort of blunt stuff, really hapless stuff.
02:28
I say one shot on target is being generous, really.
02:31
They created nothing.
02:33
They didn't test Steve Bender in the Millwall goal.
02:37
Unsurprisingly, Millwall's opener after 18 minutes comes via big centre-off Jake Cooper,
02:42
just as it did here last season in February.
02:45
Somehow allowed to escape in a six-yard box and finish low from a cross that didn't go cleared somehow.
02:51
He's the obvious threat.
02:52
He was a threat all afternoon.
02:54
But Albion lost a physical battle throughout, not just to him.
02:57
You can miss headers to Jake Cooper, but they lost it throughout, as I said.
03:01
It was only 1-0 at the break.
03:03
At that scoreline, obviously, you kind of hope for a response and improvements,
03:06
and you can get level.
03:07
Obviously, only a one-goal margin.
03:08
It didn't come.
03:10
In Albion's defence, the second goal was a screamer, a worldie from Femi Aziz.
03:15
25 yards plus out to the right, smashes it in with his left.
03:18
Unbelievable strike.
03:19
Really a great goal.
03:20
But, you know, even that, Albion just lost it maybe high in their area.
03:26
But it's so easy for Millwall to play away from a couple of Albion players.
03:29
I think it was Molumbi and Price and get the ball forward, and then it's a rocket.
03:32
And the third goal comes from left-back Zach Sturge, I think, after Albion trying to maybe commit.
03:38
And George Campbell loses it at right-back.
03:39
Port in that position again, obviously out of position.
03:42
But, you know, it's not on Campbell.
03:44
It's not on the whole side, really.
03:46
I think, you know, and it's not defending him too much, but I think Jed Wallace, one of four changes today.
03:51
I saw one or two, obviously, you know, unsure, complaining about Wallace's inclusion here at his former club.
03:56
But I think he's probably one that leaves here on him with a modicum of credit, really.
04:00
His drive in the first half was lapped through everyone else.
04:03
And some of his colleagues could have done with having a look at him, to be honest.
04:06
But, look, four changes, as I say.
04:08
Toby Collier came in for a full debut, struggled.
04:11
But they all did, really.
04:13
By the time Illing Junior and Magic came on, it was 2-0 on the hour and the game had gone, really.
04:19
They couldn't have an impact.
04:20
And, yeah, thoroughly miserable, miserable day.
04:22
And frustration to not build on Wednesday night.
04:24
You know, such a good result out there in Norfolk.
04:27
And two weeks to shoe on this now before Preston at home.
04:30
Albion will have a few days off, obviously.
04:32
The schedule's been mad, really.
04:34
It's been tough.
04:35
But they don't really deserve days off, if you know what I mean.
04:37
But, look, naturally, that happens in international breaks, the first part of the week.
04:41
But there's a lot to work on, clearly.
04:43
You know, we know it's not a big squad.
04:44
Obviously, it hasn't been, what was it, nine goals in nine games, I think, now in the league campaign.
04:50
Not 100% sure on that.
04:51
But they haven't scored enough, you know, so far.
04:54
But, look, they were fourth coming into today.
04:56
So, we can't write it all off as doom and gloom at all.
04:58
But in terms of today's performance, miles off it, well below par, needs to be improved on.
05:03
As Ryan Mason says, that type of performance cannot be repeated.
05:06
I've got all the reaction and coverage and all of that from today.
05:10
