00:00What were you looking for and what did you feel like you saw in the preseason opener?
00:05Three things. Run, talk, compete. I thought given the workload of the last three days,
00:13our ability to run and play hard was pretty good. I would say our talk was not good.
00:22And I would say the stretch at the end of the first quarter and to start the third
00:25was non-competitive. So again, I'm not expecting perfection in a preseason game, but
00:33there's room for growth in those areas. Look, the reality, and this is not an excuse,
00:39this is quite literally reality. They've had 19 guys in the gym all of September. They did their
00:46installs similar to how we did last year in September. They were able to get a lot of their
00:50installs in. They've had seven practices. They're ahead of us from that perspective. They have
00:55more stuff in. I felt that more on the defensive end. They clearly have a lot of their concepts,
01:04schemes, all that stuff really, really tight. We just haven't had enough time. We will get there.
01:10I'm very confident. And look, there were some bright spots for us. I thought Vando
01:15played extremely hard, was very disruptive. CK's minutes were great, good for Austin to be able
01:22to score efficiently in a limited amount of time. RJ was a bright spot in that second half. So
01:28there were some good stuff.
01:31You mentioned Austin a couple days ago, just with you, felt like his burst, you know, was
01:35impressed you. Felt like you saw that in the first half. He was kind of getting the spots that he
01:40wanted. Is that fair?
01:41Yeah. We have three elite offensive creators on our team. We only had one of those guys in the lineup
01:48tonight. And they've got good perimeter defenders. So, you know, for him to do that in 19 minutes,
01:56however long he played, 20 minutes was great.
02:00Aiden had a couple blocks, close to double-digit rebounds, but it seemed offensively there was some,
02:06I guess, problem taking care of the basketball and missed a couple point blank layups. Do you think
02:12the offensive production is something to do with, kind of, you mentioned you guys are behind in terms of
02:17practices and installing stuff? Or just kind of what did you make of the disparity between his defensive
02:22impact and offensive impact?
02:24Yeah, I think it's just getting comfortable and in a rhythm for him. And part of the reason we wanted him
02:33with us and on this team with this group is the partnership with Luka and what we think that will
02:40look like. And there's a rhythm and comfort level with AR that's going to develop as well. We worked
02:47on that some in our small group Vitamins before practice yesterday, just the two of them for about
02:5220 minutes, just talking through stuff. That will develop. And I think that's, you know, where he
02:58gets comfortable playing with those two guys in pick and roll. You'll see his offensive output good.
03:05But he did make a couple plays. I know he missed, you know, he missed one at the rim and hustled back
03:10and broke up a lob play. So there were some bright moments for him, too.
03:17Sticking with DeAndre, you mentioned pregame that was a point of emphasis to get him those touches,
03:22you know, down low on the block. Just how did you feel, I guess, his teammates did in terms of
03:25getting him involved in that way?
03:26I think we tried. Yeah. Again, they were in a white, which they've been able to install whites.
03:33You know, we haven't been able to install that. So they did a good job fronting him and having a
03:38low man. So we were cognizant of that. It was mentioned today during script and again, pregame.
03:46So the guys were looking for him. But again, they had their defense installed for that.
03:51You kind of talked about, you know, the ability to run based on what you've sort of put on these
03:59guys the first three days. Were there were there moments tonight that you saw glimpses perhaps of
04:06kind of like, OK, this is like these are championship shape type plays, like whether it was
04:12getting to lose balls or any of that stuff earlier. Is it still like, no, it's it's all it's a work in
04:17progress. You know, those habits and communication and shape, particularly for a new group,
04:27those things take time. It's not gonna be 10 games. It's not gonna be 20 games. It's the course of an
04:3382 game season. The hope is after 195 days from the start of training camp to the end of regular
04:38season, we've we've stacked enough good days and built those habits. That's what we're after. That
04:45is the process of becoming a great team. It's it's not going to happen overnight. And there will be
04:51a level of patience with all of that. There will be an effort to facilitate all of those things.
04:59And there will be accountability to all of those things. But we're not expecting it to happen overnight.
