00:30I get just choked up just thinking about how terrifying it was.
00:36I found myself at the age of 41, like, just feeling like a complete failure.
00:43We all hit that moment in life where things just are not going how you thought they would go.
00:50The alarm would go off at 6 o'clock in the morning, and I would lie there.
00:54And I would think about how much we had fought the night before.
00:57And I would think about the fact that I was unemployed.
01:00And I would hit the snooze button.
01:04All day long, these tiny decisions that take you so far off track.
01:09Staying at a job that you hate is a decision.
01:12Staying with somebody that treats you like garbage is a decision.
01:15And in order to change, you have about a five-second window in which you can move from idea to action before your brain kicks into full gear and sabotages any change of behavior.
01:28The next morning, the alarm goes off, and I counted out loud, and then I stood up.
01:36Five, four, three, two, one.
01:39And for the first time in three months, I had beaten my habit of hitting the snooze button.
01:47You can outsmart your own brain.
01:50There are tricks that you can use that actually outsmart the tricks your brain plays on you in furtherance of a higher purpose.
01:59And then I started to notice something really interesting.
02:02There were moments all day long, and if I didn't move within five seconds, my brain would step in and talk me out of it.
02:08We all know what to do.
02:10None of us know how to make ourselves do it.
02:12You're going to have to do things that are difficult, uncertain, or scary.
02:18The truth is that you're never going to feel ready to make these changes.
02:24It's your job to push yourself.
02:38The truth is that you're not going to feel ready to make these changes.
03:08Five, four, three, two, one.
03:38change comes down to five second decisions and this is why the five second rule is important
03:50for everybody to know because i went from getting up on time and waking up on time to shaking up my
03:55entire life the fact about human beings is our minds are designed to stop you at all costs from
04:02doing anything that might hurt you but you can always make a decision that's always in your
04:09control every human being has a five second window it might even be shorter
04:32everything comes down to the decisions that you make and if you change your decisions you will
04:43change everything
04:43your life comes down to your decisions because when you understand the power of a five second decision
05:06and you understand that you always have a choice to go from autopilot to decision maker
