00:00In Venezuela, the President Nicolás Maduro reaffirmed that the country will never be a colony of anyone
00:16and that Venezuela maintains a policy of peaceful democracy in the face of aggressions from the United States.
00:23The Colombian people mobilized in defense of democracy and the government of President Gustavo Petro.
00:35And the Palestinian resistant movement Hamas announced on Friday its willingness to release Israeli prisoners
00:42and proposes an independent Palestinian administration for the Gaza Strip.
00:47Hello and welcome to From the South.
00:53My name is Belen de los Santos.
00:55I'm from the Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:57We begin with the news.
00:58We now begin with the information in Venezuela.
01:13The President Nicolás Maduro affirmed that the country will never be a colony of anyone
01:18and that Venezuela maintains a peaceful policy of democracy in the face of aggressions from the United States.
01:26During the International Conference Colonialism, Neocolonialism and Territorial Dispossessions of Western Imperialism,
01:34the President made a call to the people to fight for their dignity and their right to exist in a sovereign and peaceful country
01:42in the face of imperial threats in the region.
01:45Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro also ratified his country's commitment to peaceful diplomacy and its anti-imperialist character.
01:52The event was attended by more than 130 delegates from 59 countries,
01:58which discussed new models of colonization and the right of the people to coexist in peace and harmony with one another.
02:06We know enough about diplomacy and we could paraphrase Chávez from that February 29, 2004,
02:22when he declared the anti-imperialist character of the Bolivarian Revolution of the 21st century.
02:28There is enough diplomacy here, diplomacy for peace, if peace is wanted,
02:34and we seek peace and diplomacy also to confront the new imperial attempt to colonize our America
02:41and fight however we have to fight in the stage that we have to,
02:46in order to preserve the dignity and the right to life, to peace and the existence of our people.
02:52In this context, the Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro condemned the 1918-199 arbitration decision
03:05that seeks to strip Venezuela off the Ezequivo territory.
03:09126 years ago an arbitral decision was negotiated in conjuponcha in imperial complicity, absolutely null and void.
03:28An arbitral decision that corresponded to the times of colonial plundering of that 19th century
03:35where Venezuela stood up and gave an example of dignity to the world.
03:46It was the end of the 19th century already, 1899, 126 years ago exactly one day like today.
03:55The arbitral award of Paris tied, cooked and approved by the old decadent and immoral and criminal British Empire,
04:10and the nascent, voracious and greedy American empire against a sacred land,
04:22blessed of all times that gave birth to the liberators of America, our beloved Venezuela.
04:31And the Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro also celebrated the development
04:35of the International Conference Against Colonialism and Territorial Dispossession in this way.
04:47I welcome the holding of this International Conference Against Colonialism,
04:52Neo-colonialism, and the territorial plundering of Western empires over the centuries.
04:58Also in this context, Vice President Elsie Rodriguez announced the appropriation
05:06of a resource-rich territory by the United States and the United Kingdom together with Guyana,
05:12which opens the doors to U.S. intervention in the Caribbean.
05:21What this means is a component between the United States and the British
05:25in robbing a large territory rich in gold, oil, and gas,
05:29which is today claimed by ExxonMobil,
05:31to fund a new fraud being staged at the International Court of Justice.
05:42The sole purpose is to give this territory, which does not belong to them, to Guyana.
05:47It is regrettable, President.
05:48To reflect on how the current situation we are experiencing
05:59and that our brother countries in the Caribbean are suffering
06:02is because Guyana has opened the door to the United States
06:05to militaristic aggression in our region.
06:07And the Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines Ralph Gonsalves
06:15emphasized that cooperation in the Caribbean is essential to combat drugs,
06:21human and weapons trafficking.
06:26We have always cooperated to eliminate the existence of criminal activities
06:31such as drug trafficking, human trafficking, and illegal weapons trafficking.
06:37We have to work together in Latin American and the Caribbean to eliminate all of this.
06:43But the existence of illegal activities by actors that are not part of these states
07:02does not represent the presence of war or the disturbance of peace.
07:07So when someone, whether it's a CARICOM leader or a Latin American leader,
07:17or a Latin American leader,
07:18says that we don't have a zone of peace because we have drug trafficking
07:34or because we have weapons trafficking,
07:36look in my country,
07:38in every Caribbean country,
07:40in any Latin American country,
07:42we don't manufacture weapons or bullets.
07:45All that comes from the United States of America.
07:51And now we have a short break coming up.
07:52But first, remember you can join us on TikTok at Tell Us Your English

08:06Welcome back to From the South.
08:12We continue with more information.
08:14The government of Venezuela denounced the United States' persistent interference
08:19in the Bolivarian territory before the United Nations.
08:23In his Telegram account, the foreign minister, Evangel,
08:25informed that the Venezuelan alternate ambassador to the United Nations,
08:30Joaquin Pérez, denounced the illegal incursion of U.S. fighter planes in Venezuela
08:35to the president of the Security Council, Vasily Aleksevich.
08:40In this regard, Evangel reaffirmed that the act represents a threat to national sovereignty.
08:47In particular, he stressed that the aggression violates the norms of international law
08:52and the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation.
08:56In this framework of international denunciation to the illegal military aggressions in the Caribbean,
09:08the U.S. Secretary of War, Pete Hexet, reported yet another U.S. military attack
09:14against a vessel off the coast of Venezuela.
09:17The Pentagon leader informed that four men, which they described as narco-terrorists,
09:23were killed in the attack on the vessel.
09:25The military operation was carried out in international waters off the coast of Venezuela
09:29under the claim that the vessel was allegedly transporting narcotics destined for the United States.
09:36This aggression occurs in a scenario of constant U.S. military interference in the Caribbean
09:42under the justification of allegedly carrying out an anti-drug campaign.
09:48Venezuela has yet not published an official statement on this last event.
09:53And the Colombian president, Gustavo Petro, was the first to respond to the U.S. aggressions taken to X
10:08to state that these illegal attacks are targeting poor young men in the Caribbean.
10:14There are no narco-terrorists on those boats, he said.
10:18The drug traffickers live in the U.S., Europe and Dubai.
10:23Those boats carry poor young people from the Caribbean, firing missiles when interception is possible.
10:30As Colombia does, this last one violates the universal legal principle of proportionality
10:37and therefore constitutes murder.
10:39The families of these young people must join forces.
10:43Venezuela has not yet issued a statement.
10:50And the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also issued a communique
10:54warning about the recent military actions of the United States
10:58and learning about the serious repercussions they will have for peace and stability in Latin America and the Caribbean.
11:05In a statement, the foreign ministry asserted that the extraordinary buildup of military resources
11:11in the Southern Caribbean, the recent illegal incursions by U.S. combat aircraft
11:17into Venezuela's flight information region, the repeated destruction of civilian vessels
11:22and the murder of their crews, together with the announcement that such actions would be extended to land areas
11:30are now accompanied by the notification that the United States will be engaged
11:34in a non-international armed conflict against illegal combatants.
11:38They denounced that a direct military aggression against Venezuela would trigger an armed conflict
11:43that would have incalculable consequences for the peace, security and stability of our Americas.
11:50And to conclude, they reiterated that Cuba's firm and unwavering support
11:54for the Bolivarian and Chavista government of Venezuela
11:57and for the popular and military unity of the Venezuelan people.
12:02Military aggression must be stopped in order to preserve peace in Latin America and the Caribbean.
12:09And the Colombian people mobilized in defense of democracy and the government of President Gustavo Petro.
12:25From the city of Ibagué, citizens took to the streets in a large popular mobilization
12:29to defend democracy, human dignity and social justice.
12:33The protesters, representing various social unions, student and ethnic groups,
12:39reaffirmed their strong support for President Gustavo Petro
12:42and emphasized the importance of protecting progress in the areas of peace, social rights
12:48and the fight against inequality.
12:51The day unfolded as a strong message from the heart of Colombia,
12:55demonstrating that there is a large sector of the nation
12:59that is actively mobilizing to support democratically elected government
13:04and to demand that the promises of profound change and social justice be fulfilled.
13:15And hundreds of people gathered for the second consecutive week
13:20in front of the Broadview, Illinois facility in Chicago
13:23to protest against the raids by U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement ICE in the United States.
13:30The protesters raised their voices against the anti-immigration measures
13:34taken by Donald Trump's administration
13:36and in support of the Global Sumit Flotilla,
13:40which was illegally intercepted by Israel while heading to the Gaza Strip.
13:45The protesters, who were carrying Palestinian flags,
13:48were attacked with teogas
13:49and some were arrested, including an elderly man.
13:54Also in this context, social organizations have denounced the illegal raids carried out
13:59by the ICE,
14:01describing them as an unprecedented violation of human rights.
14:06In other news, doctors in Spain went on strike on Friday
14:14against a draft framework statute proposed by the Ministry of Health
14:18for all health care providers.
14:20The demonstrators demand their own statute
14:23that recognizes the unique characteristics of doctors' shorter working hours
14:29and recognition of on-call duty as overtime, among other demands.
14:33The Ministry of Health rejects a separate statute for doctors,
14:37arguing the draft improves the rights of all health care personnel,
14:41reduces job insecurity,
14:43and puts an end to 24-hour shifts,
14:46something that professionals have been demanding for decades.
14:50However, unions claim that doctors have physicians
14:53and physicians have been discriminated against since 2003
14:58compared to other workers and professionals
15:00due to the additional shifts,
15:02which are mandatory until the age of 50 or 55
15:05and paid a lower rate than the ordinarily hour
15:10and do not count towards retirement.
15:30Yes, we have come to the second short break,
15:36but before we invite you to tune in tonight
15:38for a special interview with the director
15:41of the Latin American Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry,
15:46Alexander Shantinin,
15:47join us at 8.30 p.m. Keto time,
15:509.30 p.m. Caracas, Havana, and New York time.
15:54Final short break.
15:55Don't go away.
16:00Welcome back to From the South.
16:22We continue with more information.
16:24The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas announced on Friday
16:28its willingness to release Israeli prisoners
16:30and proposes an independent Palestinian administration
16:34for the Gaza Strip.
16:35The statement was in response to the U.S. proposal
16:39to end the genocide in the enclave
16:41in which the Palestinian movement also affirmed
16:44it was prepared to immediately enter into negotiations
16:48to discuss the details of the exchange.
16:51On the other hand, the movement stressed
16:52that the political and territorial future of the enclave
16:55must be addressed within an inclusive Palestinian national framework
17:00in which the movement will be part of
17:03and rejected to lay down its weapons.
17:06Hamas' response comes amid an increase of Israeli attacks
17:09against the Gaza Strip
17:10and of the number of civilians killed by the Zionist regime.
17:15Meanwhile, the streets of Italy have been the scene of intense protests
17:25over the illegal interception of the global summit flotilla
17:29and the abduction of the fleet of members by military forces
17:33of the Zionist State of Israel.
17:35In Rome, around 10,000 people marched from the Colosseum
17:39in support of the Palestinian people
17:42and also in protest against the violent interception of the flotilla.
17:47In this scenario, the U.S.B. and the C.G.I.L.,
17:51two of the country's largest trade unions,
17:54called for a nationwide strike on Friday
17:56that interrupted train services and poor traffic as well.
18:01Demonstrators marched to the Termini Central train station
18:04while other rallies took place in Palermo, Trento, Turin and Milan,
18:08gathering thousands of people.
18:11Protesters accused the right-wing government of Giorgia Meloni
18:15of taking a position that was critical of the flotilla
18:19in which dozens of Italians participated.
18:26And on the other hand,
18:28more than one million people in Yemen marched on Friday
18:32in support of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
18:35The demonstrations which were held in the city of Sana'a
18:39and in 14 governorates reaffirmed their continued support
18:44for the Palestinian people under the slogan
18:46rejecting the Zionist U.S. conspiracy
18:49and standing with Gaza until victory.
18:53The protesters pointed out that solidarity with Palestine
18:57and its struggle strengthens as the Israeli conspiracy intensifies.
19:01The Yemeni authority called on the world communities
19:04to join efforts to save the Palestinians
19:06and honor the humanity
19:07and also to unmask the Zionist and U.S. criminals.
19:12And precisely in this context,
19:20the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodriguez,
19:23joined the voices denouncing the illegal interception of the flotilla.
19:27Through a post on his ex-account,
19:30the Cuban top diplomat shared that they condemn
19:32the detention of the more than 400 members
19:35of the global Sumit flotilla
19:37by Israeli forces who must be released immediately,
19:41adding that Israel must cease its disrespect
19:44for international law
19:45and its blockade and genocide
19:48against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
19:54And like this, we have come to the end of this news brief.
