00:01On this day in space.
00:03In 1942, Germany did the first ever successful test launch of a ballistic missile.
00:08This missile was officially named Aggregate IV, but it's more commonly known as the V-2.
00:13The V-2 was designed by the famous German rocket scientist Wernher von Braun,
00:17and it proved to be a super deadly weapon during World War II.
00:20It launched from an island off the Baltic coast of Germany called Peine Munde,
00:23and reached an altitude of 52.5 miles before safely landing right on target 118 miles away.
00:29And that's what happened on this day in space.
