00:22started playing golf only on a driving range and was pretty much entirely self-taught at the game.

00:27He had some success in high school and it was enough to give him a scholarship where he would

00:32go on to study at the University of Oklahoma. Fowler had a decorated amateur and collegiate career.

00:38In 2007 he was a member of the winning US Walker Cup team and also won the Sonny Hanna and Players

00:44Amateur in the same year. In 2008 Fowler won the Ben Hogan Award which is an annual prize given to the

00:50best college player in the US. His full name is Rick Utaka Fowler. It's not known exactly when and why

00:56he preferred to be called Ricky. But his middle name comes from his maternal grandfather who is

01:01Japanese. His maternal grandmother is Navajo Native American. Fowler is married to former

01:06track and field amateur athlete Alison Stoke. They started dating in 2017, became engaged in 2018,

01:13married in 2019 and welcomed their first child to the world in November 2021. Fowler turned pro in

01:192009 and finished his first PGA Tour event as a pro in the top 10. While he was PGA Tour Rookie of the

01:26Year in 2010, it took until 2011 for Fowler to secure his first professional win which was a six stroke

01:33victory over Rory McIlroy at the Korea Open. He won his first PGA Tour event a year later in 2012 at the

01:40Wells Fargo Championship. His most significant and decorated win to date was the 2015 Players Championship.

01:46He beat Sergio Garcia and Kevin Kisner in a famous playoff win. Fowler played the final six holes of

01:52regulation in six under par to force his way into the playoffs. He then hit a famous shot on the
