00:00Trophy chored Pakistan that has finally blinked and said sorry to the BCCI.
00:05It is an India Today exclusive news break.
00:07Pakistan has apologized after running away with our trophy
00:12and laying all sorts of conditions to how the trophy will be returned back.
00:18Pakistan, with all the embarrassment and all the insults that they've been facing
00:23over how they ran away with the Asia Cup trophy and did not give it to India,
00:28Pakistan has finally blinked.
00:30They have apologized to the BCCI.
00:33They're trying to get to further details of how that has happened.
00:37But yes, Pakistan mantri, Nakvi, who had left with the trophy
00:41and again was laying all sorts of conditions on how the Indian captain should come and collect it
00:46or how there should be a formal ceremony that should be held
00:49and only then will the trophy be handed over.
00:52All of those demands have fallen flat.
00:55Pakistan has been completely embarrassed, has been left red-faced with how they dealt with this entire defeat.
01:05India defeated Pakistan thrice during the Asia Cup and of course to win the finals
01:11but making it very clear that this victory was dedicated to our soldiers
01:16and especially when it came to receiving the trophy, that would not happen from the Pakistan mantri.
01:22That is when Pakistan took it to its ego but the very childish and juvenile behavior that they exhibited
01:29of how they ran away with the trophy and all of that was caught on camera.
01:33Pakistan ever since has been thinking of damage control ways of how do they possibly save that reputation
01:43that had taken a massive hit.
01:46But yes, Pakistan has finally said sorry.
01:49Let me cut across to Nikhil Nas to get inside details.
01:53But before that I am being told, Nitin Srivastav is joining us with further information on how Pakistan has said sorry to the BCCI.
02:02Nitin.
02:03Well, yes, you know, there was a meeting of ACC yesterday and BCCI, you know, was representing by, you know,
02:13with good details what we are learning now.
02:17That BCCI, you know, was very firm and they raised good questions against Mosseem Nakpi
02:24asking that why, you know, the trophy was not handed over to the Indian team.
02:28And when they refused to accept, you should have, you know, managed it really nicely.
02:33But in more information, but I am learning from my sources that Mosseem Nakpi did ask, you know,
02:39to BCCI that sent Surya to collect the trophy from ACC office.
02:43Then BCCI said when you were there during the, you know, award ceremony,
02:46when he at that time refused not to take trophy from you,
02:49do you think that he will come, you know, to Dubai and he will do the same thing?
02:54Absolutely not.
02:55And second thing, which is the biggest thing that Mosseem Nakpi apologized to BCCI saying
03:00whatever has happened should not have happened, but he still refused, you know, to hand over the trophy.
03:06But that is the big thing.
03:07Mosseem Nakpi, ACC chairman, PCV chairman, interior minister of Pakistan,
03:12he actually apologized in front of all, all associate members, you know, of ACC,
03:18all members of ACC and especially to BCCI.
03:21That is a big thing that Mosseem Nakpi has actually realized that he has done a wrong thing.
03:26He should have, you know, handed over the trophy in a proper manner.
03:30He should have, you know, given the chance to Indian side to be there on the dice with the trophy.
03:35But he was very adamant that he only want to give the trophy.
03:38And if he is apologizing, that is a big, big, you know, development in this trophy controversy.
03:44Oh, yes, absolutely, Nitin.
03:46In fact, the realization that was in from day one, but they were taking it on their ego
03:50because the Indian team gave it back to not just the Pakistan team,
03:55but most importantly to Mosseem Nakpi,
03:57making it very clear that we will not accept the trophy from him.
04:00And that is when they thought, how do they safe face?
04:03Especially when it came to Mosseem Nakpi,
04:06laid down those several conditions.
04:08But they know all of this will not work
04:10because India is the rightful winner of the Asia Cup trophy.
04:14And that is where it needs to be handed over.
04:17And now they finally apologized after so many days.
04:22Well, of course, see, you know,
04:24it was very clear that India, if they are going to win,
04:26which they did,
04:27they will not accept the trophy from Mosseem Nakpi.
04:29And there was a negotiation even on the DAS when Mosseem Nakpi was there
04:33that, you know, the ECB vice president, ECB chairman,
04:37he will actually hand over the trophy to Indian team.
04:39But Mosseem Nakpi denied for that.
04:41He was very adamant that I am the ACC chairman
04:43and I will only hand over the trophy.
04:45So that is why.
04:46And he also, you know, admitted that he was looking like a cartoon
04:49when he was there for a good 50, you know, 60 minutes on DAS.
04:52So if he is accepting he is looking like a cartoon,
04:56now he is apologizing, you know, towards BCCI.
04:58It is a big thing for BCCI
05:00because very strong, you know, words was there.
05:03There was heated argument between BCCI
05:06and also, you know, ACC chairman,
05:08you know, to hand you over the trophy.
05:11Right. Nitin, we are trying to get more responses to this
05:13and I request you to stay on with us
05:15as at the moment, Mr. Atul Vasan is with us on the phone line.
05:19Mr. Vasan, your response to Mosseem Nakpi
05:21finally kneeling down
05:24and the team apologizing to India for what they did.
05:30Well, what can I say?
05:31I mean, if he has done that,
05:32then too little, too late for me
05:34because if he would have done it on that day,
05:36you know, and just would have taken the higher moral ground,
05:39I think everything could have been plagued
05:41and we could have, you know, forgotten all the things
05:44that had transpired before that.
05:45But if he has done that,
05:47then just follow it up with, you know,
05:50doing other stuff as well,
05:52giving the trophy back,
05:53medal and everything.
05:54I don't know how,
05:55but I don't believe actually that he apologized
05:57because even if he has done it,
05:59he doesn't mean it, I'm sure.
06:00Surely he may not mean it,
06:03but the fact that he has come to this level
06:05to finally apologize
06:06because he knew that he has lost face.
06:11He knew that he was laying one condition after the other
06:13and India is the rightful owner of this trophy
06:17and this is where it has to come.
06:19And probably it has taken these days
06:21for him to bend down and understand that.
06:23May not mean it,
06:25but they had to do this eventually.
06:27I don't think so.
06:28Unless there must be a threat
06:30of some financial penalties,
06:32I think the Pakistanis will never bow down
06:34because they reckon
06:36they still did the right thing
06:37because they're just trying to take
06:40the revenge for that insult they felt
06:42when we didn't shake hands with them
06:43and it started from there on.
06:46So, Mr. Vasan,
06:47in your experience,
06:48what may have transpired through these days
06:50that Pakistan has come to this level?
06:53Financial penalties could be one factor,
06:55what you're saying,
06:56but do explain to our viewers
06:57how it may have worked on the inside
07:00when it came to talk or negotiations
07:03or what happened with the ICC,
07:05BCCI or PCB?
07:07You know, they know that
07:09there are going to be repercussions
07:10from ICC.
07:11The first day,
07:12when they didn't come to the ground
07:13for that game,
07:15for one hour late they came,
07:17I think they don't think through the end game.
07:21You know, that's the problem.
07:22And now, again,
07:23they have just taken on impulsively
07:24to do whatever they want.
07:26And now when the repercussions
07:27are in front of them,
07:28they try to backtrack.
07:29And I think this apology,
07:31which I still don't believe
07:32unless I see a video
07:33in front of me,
07:35if he wants to apologize,
07:37then let's have a proper apology
07:39which everybody can see.
07:40It is tangible.
07:41But what you're telling me is abstract.
07:42I can't see it.
07:43I can't feel it.
07:46And the fact that
07:48the defeat was already
07:49a huge embarrassment for them,
07:51but the juvenile play
07:53that they exhibited from there on,
07:55I mean, like you're saying,
07:56that they should have accepted
07:58the defeat gracefully.
07:59Grace is not something
08:00that Pakistan understands.
08:01But the fact that
08:03taking away the trophy,
08:04running away with it,
08:06and then saying
08:06we'll not return it,
08:07it's been three days.
08:09I mean, how could they possibly
08:10even go on to do that?
08:12Well, they have done it.
08:13So, it's in front of you.
08:14But I think defeat
08:15is never embarrassing.
08:16I think if you played
08:17your heart out
08:17to play to your potential,
08:19then players should not
08:20be embarrassed, you know,
08:21unless you've given it your all.
08:23And I think that is where it is.
08:24And now you are actually,
08:25you know,
08:26conjoining
08:27that what happened
08:28on the field,
08:29the actual cricket part of it,
08:30with the stuff that
08:31transpired later.
08:33So, I think that is where
08:34we have gone wrong.
08:35So, keep that cricket on the side
08:36because the creators tried,
08:38we were better,
08:39we won the game,
08:39but then the mechanisms
08:41of politics
08:42has taken over.
08:43Oh, yes, absolutely.
08:44And, you know,
08:46given how they have behaved,
08:49how they have lost face further,
08:50how the world now looks at them,
08:52they continue to do this
08:54time and again
08:54in several ways
08:56and especially
08:57in the game of cricket,
08:59of the little dignity
09:01that they may have had
09:02of the victories
09:02that they may have had
09:04to reach the finals
09:05in the Asia Cup,
09:06all of that
09:07has been wiped off
09:08with this sort of behaviour
09:10that they have exhibited.
09:15Mr. Vassar.
09:16Yes.
09:17Yeah, you are right actually.
09:18We can see,
09:19we keep on saying that
09:20but going forward from there
09:22because we are going to play them
09:23again
09:23in a few days time
09:24in the Women's World Cup.
09:27So, I mean,
09:27will there be handshakes?
09:28What will happen with this play?
09:30Probably,
09:30you know,
09:31things will have to be fixed
09:33before that match happens
09:34because otherwise
09:34it is going to just go around,
09:36you know,
09:36stooping another level
09:38which will actually make it worse.
09:41You don't let it go to a level
09:42where we can't actually
09:43claw it back.
09:47All right.
09:48Mr. Vassar,
09:49many thanks for sharing
09:50your thoughts.
