00:00We caught up with Arvind Agarwala of founder of FACT Software Group to discuss the opportunities
00:06of Indian IT professionals amid the H-1B visa paywall and its consequences in the long run.
00:15Let's listen in.
00:17You'd be surprised as to how many thousands of engineers IBM has in India, for example.
00:23Now, why would IBM do all their software development in the US?
00:26For example, country risk mitigation is one part, cost is one part.
00:30For example, the visas is one part.
00:33There are many factors at play.
00:35So if something like this happens and it becomes unaffordable, for example, for the US companies
00:40to hire Indian talent because of this huge increase in the fees, there will be other avenues which
00:46will open up.
00:47For example, if you look at a country like India and you look at the IT spending by the government
00:52sector alone, a lot of talent is required here.
00:55Singapore also wants to take a lead in, for example, the AI space.
01:03So there will be demand there.
01:06So whether the Indian IT professionals go to the US or Europe or Singapore or Vietnam or
01:11Japan, it really doesn't matter.
01:13Of course, for the short term, there will be disruption.
01:16And of course, we can see that happening even with the 50 percent tariffs.
01:19But then again, alternatives will work out.
01:23So there are problems on both counts.
01:25This 50 percent tariff is really for manufacturing.
01:29And this is a services issue.
01:31And this will affect services sectors.
01:35But as you say, definitely in the short run, but perhaps not in the long term.
01:40Oh, absolutely not.
01:41I mean, do you really expect the 50 percent tariffs to be there forever?
01:44I doubt it.
01:46Now, with the 50 percent tariffs coming on the goods, personally, I was expecting something
01:51similar to come in the services sector also.
01:54In what manner, shape or size was still unclear.
01:58But now we know that this is one of the areas which could be covered.
02:02And because the US employs a lot of IT professionals from India, then this was a very natural reaction
02:11to happen.
