Meet the man running 40 marathons in 40 different countries around Europe.
Transcript
00:00Good evening everybody. It is 7.30pm in the evening. I'm just starting my Greek marathon
00:05and I'm just outside one of their old warships which has obviously been decommissioned now
00:11but it's very impressive nonetheless. It's a bit later than it usually would be
00:16when I'd like to start my marathons but obviously it's been boiling hot all day
00:20as you can imagine in Greece so we've had to postpone the run till this evening. Greece is
00:26the home of the marathons. If you didn't know there's a town or maybe even there's a city
00:31which is exactly 42 kilometres away from Athens which is called marathon. Hence the name marathon
00:37given to the race of running which is 42 kilometres long. So in the homeland of marathons
00:43we're looking to put out a big performance tonight. The rough plan for the run is just basically run
00:49along the coast. The city is so rammed with tourists and people and obviously the buildings hold all
00:54the heat so it's just not ideal running conditions. So the plan is run down the coast as far as possible
01:00then run back. I've got no food or gels or liquids on me so I'm gonna need to find them all along the way.
01:08This is the current congestion we're facing with all the tourists out in full flow. This is one of
01:13Thessaloniki's most famous monuments. It's some sort of ancient Roman tower. Very nice. There's also
01:20like a battleship over there. Looks like something out of Pirates of the Caribbean. But yeah the only
01:26thing worse than being running right now is probably on a bike. So we're trying to get through the
01:30congestion. Hopefully the tourism will die down and as we get deeper into the marathon it'll actually
01:36become easier. What an insane sunset forming on the horizon. Look at that dark orange. Oh yeah.
01:4415k in team. Legs feeling all right. Doing okay overall but I needed a little pit stop. So we've
01:51located an LIDL. Gonna go and get a little drink and then we'll keep going. The enforcements have
01:57been captured in Lidl. We've got a strong energy drink that could go one or two ways. Never tried
02:02one of those before and then a half litre of water. So I'm gonna down these and I'm gonna get back on with
02:07the run. Team, quick update for you. I am 21k in. Half Mara stage now. And in true Greek fashion. I've just
02:15stopped for a pita bread with some feta cheese. That is my fuel for today's run. Should keep me nice
02:20and calved up now. Heading back to the beachfront now. Back along the coastline.
02:26Taking in team. Final 8k. Big push. Lovely scenery still. Just farming the miles up and down
02:38the coastline. So just getting it over the light now. Let's go.
