After signing Jadon Sancho on loan, have Aston Villa fallen into the same trap as Rashford & Asensio again?
Transcript
00:00In 60 seconds, tell me why you think Aston Villa may have fallen into the same trap as other non-Big Six clubs.
00:06See, there's definitely a point there, right? But I don't think it's just a Villa problem.
00:10I feel like this is actually a modern football problem.
00:13If you get a big player that's only in it for their personal gain, and ultimately that's what Marcus Rashford was there for,
00:18that's what Marco Asensio was there for, right?
00:20They're there to be able to get a move to a bigger club, as you see Rashford now in Barcelona.
00:25And it does feel a little bit like potentially Sancho could be that same sort of player,
00:29where if he does go and hit the ground running at Villa, everyone's going to be talking about him as,
00:32oh, well, Sancho is not finished. Sancho could easily be playing for Dortmund again.
00:36I don't think I look at Villa with complete problems yet.
00:39Yes, they've started the season pretty badly. Villa are that sort of system all together and for one sort of thing.
00:45They can get the best out of Sancho while simultaneously progressing.
00:48Ultimately, there needs to be a process in every club. Processes are now really what everyone talks about.
00:52It's become a buzzword, right? But I think when you're talking about a club like Villa,
00:56who's clearly had a direction, that's clearly been investing for the right reasons
01:00and going the right way for the last few years, they've done everything with intention.
01:03I think that that's ultimately what football clubs have to be now to be able to compete,
01:08especially with the amount of money involved.
01:10So these short-term loans do actually kill the trajectory of a football club.
01:13That's maybe unpopular, but here we are.
