00:00As flooding remains one of the most persistent and destructive natural disasters in the country,
00:06more so during the recent typhoons and the enhanced southwest monsoon,
00:10the Philippine National Police or PNP vows to further strengthen its disaster response capabilities
00:15as our Ryan Visigas reports.
00:19I would like to commend our personnel for their preparedness and swift response
00:25during typhoons Nando and Ompong.
00:30These past few days, the country has been hit successively by typhoons from Typhoon Mirasol,
00:36Super Typhoon Nando and Ompong.
00:38And with each landfall of these storms, the entire PNP force was on hand before, during, and after the typhoon.
00:44From conducting preemptive evacuations, search and rescue missions,
00:49to clearing operations and relief distribution, the police was present.
00:53The goal is to ensure the safety of the public while also guaranteeing peace and order remain intact all over the country.
01:00Our disaster response teams, emergency units, and local police stations did not show fatigue,
01:07but exceptional readiness in ensuring that affected communities receive timely assistance.
01:14Acting PNP Chief, Police Lt. Gen. Jose Melencion Artates Jr. praised what he calls heroism that often goes unseen by others.
01:24Taos puso kong pinupurihan ang inyong pagiging maagap at sa mabilis na koordinasyon kasama ang bawat local government units at rescue units.
01:37At the same time, the PNP vowed to further strengthen its capability in disaster response,
01:42which it deems crucial since the country faces strong typhoons every year,
01:47with thousands of police serving at the front lines of disaster response.
01:51Apart from training programs and the provisions of additional equipment for disaster response,
01:57a plan to enhance the coordination and partnership between the police and the community is also in place.
