Residents oppose major cross-border solar farm at South Elmsall

00:00Plans for a major solar farm on agricultural land straddling the border between West and
00:05South Yorkshire have been submitted. More than 50 residents and councillors have so far objected
00:12to proposals to install solar panels along with a battery energy storage system across 40 hectares
00:18of land near to South Elmsall. Those opposed to the scheme said it could result in an industrial
00:24landscape returning to the former mining community. Concerns have also been raised over flooding,
00:31the impact on local wildlife and risk of fire from the BES facility. Infenis, the developer behind
00:38the application said any environmental harm from the project would be limited and localised
00:44and contribute to national and local green energy targets.
