00:00Here's a simple effect that begins with six vertical bars. If I take the top half
00:04of this paper and slide it sideways, I suddenly have five vertical bars, and if
00:08this is being portrayed as a trick, the next question will be, where did the extra
00:12bar disappear to? Well, of course, it didn't go anywhere. If we put the paper
00:15back in its original position, we can see that each of our six bars is made up of
00:19five squares, and when I move the paper over, each of my five bars is made up of
00:23six squares. Either way, five times six is thirty. We've just rearranged it. With a
00:27little cleverness and artistry, we could do the same thing with pictures. Here we
00:32have an image of fifteen leprechauns. Feel free to pause and count, but if we
00:36rearrange the top parts of the image, that piece over here, this piece over here,
00:43you'll now count fourteen leprechauns, each one a little taller and perhaps a
00:47little bit more complete than it was before. All we've done is rearrange
00:51leprechaun bits.
