00:00This is so spoilery, but yeah, but it's it's hopefully this comes out after the movie
00:10Did you ever consider the full chaos idea of calling this movie? I know what you did last summer 28 days later
00:17Years later 27 years later. No, we didn't but maybe we should call Sony
00:24Yeah, we did was were there any other considerations for the title? No because it's its own story
00:32And because it is its own accident that has nothing to do with the original accident
00:37That's what it is. You know what I mean? Like because we've kind of like yes
00:40We bring in the the you know Freddie and Jen
00:43But it is its own kind of contained entry and they did something last summer. So there's kind of no other
00:49Title for me. How long do you actually think that each of you would survive if you were being hunted by a serial killer?
00:56No time. Zero time. Zero amount of time. It's like
01:00He has a crazy hook. Oh, is that the serial killer? Yeah, if you want. Yeah, yeah, he has
01:08The fisherman has millions of weapons
01:11Millions and millions of weapons
01:14At his disposal. I think my panic would would get the best of me, and I think the first couple moves
01:22I think I would make the right choices and then I would start to think about it too much and I would panic and I would make a wrong move and then
01:31Listen, I think we've all picked up some tricks of the trade and after filming this movie
01:35Yeah, if the fights with the serial killer could be like choreographed dances, I'd say that
01:39That would be pretty good
01:41And at half speed
01:42Yeah, at half speed, too fast
01:43Yeah, and if you could say time out if it goes wrong
01:45Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
01:46They come in through the door and say, okay, let's just block it
01:48Yeah, yeah, pretty nice little cushion on the ground
01:50Uh-huh
01:51Big mud
01:52Yeah
01:54Oh my god
01:55I'm calling out on one
01:56Everyone chill out!
01:58We don't tell anybody what happened tonight
02:00We should go
02:03Having made this film after the experience of making the studio
02:06Did it color like the idea of making a franchise film at all?
02:10That's a good question
02:11I think I was
02:13I received a lot of IP floating around right now as we all know
02:17And I actually had received a couple other IP sort of projects from my agents
02:25But this one stood out to me as something that was very exciting
02:29And actually, I mean the whole cast of the studio, they were kind of the age of like when this original movie came out
02:36So they're excited, they're excited, they're fans
02:38But it did color it in the sense that I feel like I got a lot of comedic
02:44It was a comedic master class and bringing that into this helped a lot in terms of just bringing some levity to this
02:51You need to handle this
02:56This isn't the first time there's been violence like this in Southport
03:00It's not going to stop
03:12When did you get the idea to have Rae be the killer?
03:14And what was your first reaction to getting that news?
03:16Yeah, you start with her because the big swing is her
03:19Instantly
03:21Like when Sony came to me and said, would you want to do this?
03:24I kind of had two things that I said
03:26Yes, but I want to kill basically everyone
03:29I don't want to make a movie where we're setting up a franchise with, you know, you have seven characters and six survive
03:35I was like, we're killing a lot of people
03:37Body counts higher
03:38And then I knew that when I really sat down and thought about where would these people be?
03:43And how could this change a person?
03:46Especially knowing that they each have kind of their tethers in the movie in the young cast
03:51What would that look like?
03:53And so I said, and I'm
03:55I think Rae would be the killer
03:57I want Rae to be the killer
03:58And Sony said yes
03:59And then I was very nervous
04:00I brought it to Freddie and Freddie said yes
04:03Yeah, she, like I said, she took a big swing
04:07And, you know, there's a lot of pressure that comes along with that
04:11I know that it's going to make some diehard fans upset
04:14Because it should break their hearts
04:16That was kind of my goal in the performance
04:18That's why I tried to play him so vulnerable and broken
04:21In the hopes for that
04:23That's all deliberate
04:24But at the same time, as scary as that is, it's just as exciting
04:29I've never gotten to do that ever
04:31I've never gotten to be the man in the mask
04:34I've never gotten to be the monster
04:36And Hollywood is not going to allow that ever
04:39And when she was like, yo, you get to do this
04:42You get to be this
04:43I just had to know why and how
04:45And once those questions were answered
04:47I said yes
04:48And it was before the script was even written
04:50It was just based off the idea
04:51And her thought and effort and energy
04:54That she put into Rae
04:56And where he would be now at this point in his life
04:58Well, to even kind of dig down on that
04:59I mean, how did you kind of think about his marriage to Julie
05:03And kind of what they went through
05:05And then obviously the events in the town
05:06To kind of cover up the events
05:08Yeah, I mean, look
05:09I have a lot of friends whose relationships didn't work out
05:11For a plethora of reasons
05:13And sometimes it's trauma
05:15And not dealing with that trauma
05:17And that sort of shortens your fuse over years
05:21And little things start setting you off
05:23And it's not really connected to what just happened
05:25It's connected to something that happened years ago
05:27So there's a lot of bringing that to work with you
05:30Which isn't fun
05:31But in between the words action and cut
05:33It's a blast
05:34Because you get to kind of demonstrate it
05:36And execute it and show people what you've prepared
05:38And then hopefully you're able to kind of let all that go
05:41And see what happens in the moment
05:43You know what I mean?
05:44It all depends on kind of how the days flow
05:46And it dictates on how far you go in a scene
05:50But once I knew the reason why
05:52And I knew how I could play a broken man
05:54Because that's what Rey is at this point
05:56He's not this blue-collar hero anymore
05:58He has been broken by this
06:00He didn't deal with it
06:01And trauma either makes you or breaks you
06:04I know people that it's made stronger
06:06And I know people that it's broken into
06:08And this is so spoilery
06:11But yeah, but it's
06:12Hopefully this comes out after the movie
06:14And yeah, he's a broken man
06:16And this is the result
06:17Your scene with Sarah Michelle Gellar
06:19Which is, it's so
06:20I mean, she's a genre legend
06:22What was it like having that moment with her?
06:24Oh, it was awesome
06:25God, I mean, awesome doesn't even cover it
06:27It was iconic, it was amazing
06:28It was so like
06:30I called my parents at the end of the day
06:32And I was like, oh my god
06:33I just did something really cool
06:36Even just to have all the OGs come back
06:40And just be on set
06:41And be a part of it
06:42And to give their blessing
06:44Is one thing
06:45But then to be in a scene with
06:48The Sarah Michelle Gellar
06:50Who's Helen is my danish blueprint
06:53You know, it's really, really special
06:56And I don't know
06:59It's really indescribable
07:02And it's probably one of the most iconic days of my life
07:09We are not gonna die to do that
