Akyaka is set on a lovely sheltered sandy bay, with safe swimming in hot-tub warm water (well almost!) Fringed by palm trees, the beach has a wonderfully tropical feel, but the village of Akyaka itself is very much traditional Turkey. Many houses here are built from pine in a distinctive octagonal design, with white washed walls and hand carved ceilings and balconies.
At one end of Akyakas bay, the azure Mediterranean is joined by the crystal waters of the River Azmak and along the banks youll find fish restaurants serving fresh river trout with a flavour that puts the farmed supermarket rainbows to shame. You cant get way from the river in Akyaka, as where the current flows into the sea theres also a jetty where alongside those boats busy fishing, others are dressed to take visitors round to the local bays and offshore islands.
