00:00I see a disappointing flow at the end there, how do you assess the result and the performance?
00:19A disappointing first half and a disappointing end of the game.
00:23So, again, once again, credits to Palace because, I don't know, one of them is the charity shield,
00:32but it's not the first time we lose against them, although the first time was on penalties.
00:36We've played each other four times since I'm here.
00:39We both won once, twice it was a draw, though penalties they won.
00:44So it tells you how difficult it is for us, but not only for us, for every team in the league to beat them.
00:49From what we could see today, they deserved to be up two or three goals in the first half.
00:54Created 3-4, very good chances.
00:58We were lucky that Alisson helped us.
01:01But yeah, in the end of the game, I think the second half was a much better performance from us.
01:06We created chances, which not many teams do here or if Palace plays away.
01:11It's very hard to create a chance.
01:13We created quite a lot.
01:14It took a while for us to score a goal.
01:16And when we did, limited time to play and to concede another set-piece goal is then as disappointing as our first half was.
01:29What were your thoughts earlier?
01:30Were you just going over the win at that point?
01:32No, we had a lot of attacking players in our line-up at that moment of time.
01:37But I don't think many things happened in the extra time.
01:42It was, by the way, the extra time of the extra time when we conceded.
01:46Which I think was fair because they made a substitution.
01:49So then you add half a minute extra and then I don't know exactly when they scored.
01:54But I assume that was between 96 and 96 in 30 seconds.
01:59So yeah, then we can only blame ourselves by defending is the way we did.
02:04So one of our players decided to run out because he wanted to play a counter-attack which was of no use.
02:10Because time was up.
02:12So it was only about defending.
02:14So yeah, maybe we were too offensively minded.
02:18Not we, one player was too offensively minded in that moment.
02:22Which led to us, them scoring the winner, us losing the game.
02:27You conceded two goals from set-pieces, is that a big concern for you going forward?
02:33Nah, against Newcastle we conceded two set-pieces.
02:36They were the only two chances they might have had in that game.
02:39Today they had more than only two set-piece goals.
02:42They didn't score more but they had chances from open play, from transition.
02:47So there were more things not to like today than only defending the set-pieces.
02:52The good thing was that in the other moments Alisson saved us.
02:56But Palace have a few threats.
02:59Set-pieces are one of them but counter-attack and balls in behind are number two and three.
03:04And from all these situations they've created a lot of chances.
03:08And what I said, we were able to create quite a lot against a Palace team.
03:15Which hardly ever concedes a chance.
03:18But when you look at the first half, they totally deserved to win.
03:22In the second half I think it was a much better performance from us.
03:25If one team deserved to win today, I think it was Palace.
03:31You mentioned before, yesterday, that playing exactly 90 minutes wouldn't have been smart.
03:38You obviously played at 84 today. What did you make of performance and how do you look at that?
03:44That had a lot to do with the low intensity of the game.
03:46If you face a low block, ten players in and around their own 18-yard box.
03:52When they have to do build-up, the goalkeeper takes a little bit of time before he kicks it long.
03:56Then there's hardly any intensity in the game.
03:58So in a more open game where both teams want to press high and want to do build-up.
04:03And you have to run a lot as a nine to press the other team.
04:05Then you might not play him for 84.
04:08But in a game like this, which was low tempo, I think I can say that.
04:14With some bursts of counter-attacks from them.
04:17But there you are, number nine is mainly not so involved in.
04:20He was close to a goal.
04:22He was very honest to stay on his feet.
04:24He got a little bit of a shirt pull.
04:26That's why he was unbalanced when he had to shoot.
04:30And that maybe was just enough.
04:32So, smart foul.
04:33A foul, not a foul.
04:35But smart.
04:36A little push to get him unbalanced.
04:38But he came closer and closer to a goal.
04:40But in the end, he didn't score.
04:43But quite a good performance for him.
04:45Last question, David.
04:47What was the idea to bring in Cody Kepo?
04:51What was the idea behind it?
04:53Nah.
04:54We wanted to overload the midfield with Florian Wiets in the first half.
05:00That's why we didn't start with Cody.
05:02But if you are 1-0 down and you need a goal, you prefer to have whiff on both sides.
05:07That's why we brought Cody in.
05:10And later on, we kept on bringing in offensive players that can score goals,
05:14taking the risk.
05:16Because, yeah, you're already 1-0 down.
05:19And again, we scored.
05:21Maybe, deserved is maybe not to say.
05:24But if you base only on the second half and the chances we had,
05:27because we were just discussing Isak.
05:29Florian Wiets had, of course, a very big chance as well.
05:32We were closer and closer to scoring a goal.
05:35So, yeah, that was the reason to bring Cody in.
05:39Because the way we played the first half wasn't as I was hoping for before the game.
05:48Thank you, guys.
