Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women in the United States — and early detection remains the most powerful tool for saving lives. In this educational video, we explore how breast cancer develops, why mammograms and self-checks are critical, and what today’s treatment landscape looks like.

We also examine emerging research on cannabinoids like CBD, CBN, and CBG — and how they may play a supportive role in improving quality of life, reducing symptoms, and even enhancing certain treatments.

Whether you’re a patient, caregiver, or advocate, this video is designed to raise awareness, empower informed decisions, and highlight how wellness and science can work together in the fight against breast cancer.

00:00Breast cancer. It's one of the most common cancers in the world and here in
00:04the US about one in eight women will be diagnosed in their lifetime. And while
00:09it's less common, men also can be affected. Breast cancer begins
00:15when cells in the breast grow out of control forming tumors. Sometimes it stays
00:20localized but it can also spread to lymph nodes or distant parts of the body.
00:24The good news, early detection saves lives. When breast cancer is caught early,
00:29the survival rate is as high as 99%. That's why mammograms, clinical exams, and
00:35self-checks are oh so important. If you notice this changes like lumps, skin
00:41dimpling, or nipple discharge, always get it checked out. Doctors use tests like
00:46mammograms, ultrasounds, MRIs, and biopsies to confirm a diagnosis and identify the
00:53type hormone-receptive positive, HER2 positive, or triple negative, which is
00:59often more aggressive. Stages range from zero, which is non-invasive, to stage 4,
01:04when it happens to spread to other organs. Treatment depends on the stage and type.
01:09Options may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, hormone therapy, targeted drugs,
01:14or immune therapy. Here in Avon, we're fortunate to have local resources like IU
01:19Health Radiology, Reyes Radiology, Henricks Regional Health Breast Cancer Center, and IU Health Cancer Center.
01:29All these guys offering high-quality screening and treatments. They're also
01:34growing interest in the supportive role of cannabinoids. Compounds like CBD, CBN, CBG,
01:40all are being studied for how they may complement treatment and improve the quality of one's life.
01:45Lab studies show CBD and THC together slow the growth of breast cancer cells. Check me on that.
01:52While CBD alone demonstrates an anti-proliferative effect. A 2025 study found CBN could even enhance
02:00the effectiveness of hormone therapy in estrogen positive cancers. Importantly, in triple negative
02:06cancers, cannabinoids reduced tumor growth without interfering with standard chemotherapy drugs. Again,
02:13this is stuff you should be checking out. Please don't take me for 100% facts on all this. However,
02:18beyond the labs, patients report benefits like reduced anxiety, better rest, and relief from nausea,
02:25pain, and appetite loss. For families concerned about using THC for their psychoactive effects,
02:33we also have non-THC options available. At the end of the day, breast cancer is serious,
02:38but knowledge, early detection, strong medical care, and supportive wellness options together
02:43give patients the best chance for healing and quality of life. Here in Avon, we're proud to offer
02:52safe, non-THC options to help families manage stress, rest better, and feel supported. Together,
02:59we can raise awareness, support survivors, and strengthen our community. Take care of each other out
03:05there. Take care of yourself. Peace.
