West Malling resident Mark Croucher is among those determined to battle plans for homes off Offham Road
Transcript
00:00So we've got a great action group across all of the residents, particularly those that live in
00:03Offen Road and everybody shares the same view. We all appreciate the need to meet the housing
00:09targets but our goal is to try and find the most sustainable way to do that. It's very clear to us
00:15that this really is not the best place to build over 200 new homes, over 500 cars and all of the
00:22local residents and traffic that would come with that. This isn't a suitable location, it's
00:26consistently constrained from the country lanes and the narrow roads so access is really limited,
00:33services aren't available, it just is not an appropriate place to build 200 new houses.
00:39This farmland is classed as an area of outstanding natural beauty and that's just one of the reasons
00:44why residents here are opposed to the pre-application. As well as that they're worried about the amount of
00:49traffic that it could bring into the already narrow roads and some older residents say that they're
00:53worried about their health as GP numbers are already stretched. Not a good time to be ill with
00:59this GP shortages so it's really a consideration, it's not at all healthy to have this and the bend
01:08is also very bad, getting out of the driveway is going to be difficult and it really is a bad angle
01:15really to have this um all this building going on.
