Synopsis : Dans l'Etat du Massachusetts, au début des années 1960. La jeune Eileen, orpheline de mère et sous la coupe d'un père ancien policier et alcoolique, travaille dans un centre pénitentiaire pour adolescents criminels. Eileen, parfois en proie à des pensées sordides, espère que l'arrivée d'une nouvelle psychologue dans l'établissement va modifier la monotonie de son quotidien, et l'aider à trouver du sens à son existence. Un meurtre est commis dans la prison, auquel la jeune femme semble mêlée....
