Interview with Charles Edwards and Charlie Vickers
Transcript
00:00Charlie, I have to ask you first about getting to say the name of the show and the name of the franchise in episode two.
00:07What was it like getting to perform that like epic monologue, but also like getting to say those iconic words in the show?
00:14Did you feel like any pressure when you got the script for that?
00:17I think I because that if I'm not correct, if I'm not mistaken, that's when I say it when I'm not visible.
00:25Right. You're walking through and that.
00:27So I've recorded that voiceover like 20 times and I remember I recorded it on set and I said it through like a God microphone when he was doing the acting.
00:38But they didn't use that because I think it was cool.
00:41And then I recorded some temp stuff and then I went into a booth and recorded it in like thousands of different ways.
00:46So it's kind of I was lucky that I could re-record it over and over again because when you're saying the title of the show, you know that it's going to be an important line.
00:55So it's nice to give them variations.
00:59Well, it all comes down to character, right?
01:02You know, the scenario is coming from the mythology, the idea that, you know, Sauron presents as Annatar and, you know, deceives Celebrimbor into making the rings.
01:10But when it came down to, you know, the scene work in there, what we're really thinking about and the God we're really praying to is, you know, if we were in Celebrimbor's shoes, like he cannot be stupid.
01:22He cannot be gulled.
01:23You know, Sauron has to earn it.
01:25Celebrimbor is very smart.
01:26He's a genius.
01:27And so Sauron needed to up his game and present in such a way that, like, blew Celebrimbor's mind.
01:34And, you know, the final shot that you saw is the product of, you know, many, many months of iteration on costume, on the look, performance, rehearsals.
01:44But then also there's a bit of a light show happening, right?
01:46Lindsay calls it the fan dance.
01:48And, you know, Charles Edwards, who plays Celebrimbor, when he's on set and he's going, and he's agog, you know, every now and then someone will say, like, is that, is he over the top?
02:00Like, no, no, no, no, no.
02:01When you see what is, exactly, it will make sense.
02:04And, you know, but it had to because this is the moment he is won over and sort of set on the path that will end in, well, stay tuned.
