00:00It's half past seven, I have to say, speaking as an adoptive man from Northwestern, it was
00:09an adopter for 20 years, it was great last night to hear Warrington accent and Scouse
00:14accent just dominating the Emmys.
00:16And now you're going to hear my version of RP.
00:19Yeah, there's really only one story from last night, everyone's over in LA, and it's certainly
00:24one to make us Brits proud, which I've been talking about all morning.
00:28It was all about adolescence, of course, the four-part Netflix hit from Stephen Graham
00:32and Jack Vaughan documentary, The Arrest and Averting Rock, a promoter of his classmate
00:35in the aftermath of his conviction.
00:38And the series, which was famously shot in one continuous tape, received 13 nominations
00:42and has taken home eight gongs overnight.
00:45Three were acting awards with Erwin Cooper, who played schoolboy Jamie, becoming the youngest
00:49stuntman ever to win an outstanding supporting actor Emmy.
00:53Stephen Graham won for his role as Jamie's distraught dad, and a phenomenal Aaron Doherty
00:57won the best supporting actress here again.
01:00So it's looking like I'm just going to be banging on about adolescence and Owen Cooper
01:03for the rest of my life, which, you know, there's worse things.
01:06But I can't get up here without talking about Stephen Graham, even though Stephen called
01:10me a tea-cozy today.
01:12Um.
01:13I'm just a mixed-race kid from a block of flats in a place called Kirby.
01:16And there's too many people to thank, but I am going to thank my adorable wife.
01:20And you know, and I know, without you, I would be dead.
01:23Honestly, when I started these drama classes a couple of years back, I didn't expect to
01:27be even in the United States, never mind here.
01:30It may have my name on this wall, but it really belongs to the people behind the camera.
01:33I hope you all have an amazing night, and good night.
01:35And that night will still be going on.
01:40It's great.
01:40And of course, L.A., notoriously, if you've ever been lucky enough to go there, will report
01:43over there.
01:44It's not a late town.
01:45But when the Brick Packer are in, I remember going over there for the Emmys when Downton
01:48was the talk of the town.
01:50Oh, we can make it a late town.
01:51You see, they're still up.
01:52We can make it a late town.
01:53Although they'll be rolling all the way through.
01:54Dickie now, Owen's having quite a weekend on that note.
01:56At a press junket on Saturday, he was asked who he's most excited to meet.
02:00His answer was Jake Gyllenhaal, which wasn't shocking, as he said numerous times in interviews,
02:04that Jake is his idol.
02:06And it would seem Jake's taken a little bit of notice.
02:10I think everyone knows that Jake Gyllenhaal's mouth top number one.
02:13Now, like, I don't know.
02:14Now, I feel nervous.
02:16Now, if you were to meet Jake, what would you say?
02:18I don't know.
02:19I'll just stare at him and I don't know.
02:21I've got no work.
02:22Oh, my God.
02:24Oh, my God.
02:26Oh, my God.
02:27Oh, my God.
02:27Oh, my God.
02:28Oh, my God.
02:30It's so nice to meet you.
02:32How do you?
02:32I have a present for you.
02:33Oh, okay.
02:34It's just a lucky duck.
02:36Oh, wow.
02:37Oh, wow.
02:38He's in your pocket.
02:38Oh, wow.
02:39He's in your pocket.
02:40I just came by because he's just been talking about me too much.
02:43I figured I'd stop.
02:45I'm just getting done.
02:48Oh, it's a beautiful moment.
02:50To be quite honest, I was like that with Jake.
02:52And I was there in a professional capacity once when I was meeting him.
02:54He just threw myself into his arms.
02:56A little bit awkward.
02:57But we have met several times since.
03:00And the duck, I believe, Jake was given a duck before the Oscars, which is why it is.
03:05He was passing along.
03:06Yes, passing on that legacy.
03:07Yes, indeed.
03:07And that good luck charm.
03:08I want to calm down, as we said this morning as well.
03:10There'll be Rowan because he's back at school on Wednesday after being given a week off.
03:14Because, of course, he won the NTA as well.
03:16I mean, you know, going back into your class.
03:19He's a born winner, isn't he?
03:20Born winner, yeah.
03:21I want to point out when Stephen Graham, because some people might have been surprised by his speech where he said he's a mixed race from Kirby.
03:28He's actually spoken out about suffering racial abuse as a child because of his mixed race heritage.
03:35His grandfather was from Jamaica.
03:39And he said to the son earlier this year, as a kid, I was called horrible words that I don't even want to say because he's mixed race.
03:48So that's something I'm not sure that, you know, I mean, obviously he's raised that in his speech.
03:55And he's obviously suffered.
03:56But as you say, some people might not have been aware of that.
03:59And he's going to be dead proud of our own because I met him recently.
04:02And he's going to be over the moon for the whole team on Adolescence.
04:05Other highlights from last Sunday.
04:07He did a win for the Traitors.
