00:00Brock Lesnar wasn't supposed to beat John Cena?
00:03Outrage at WWE WrestleMania ticket prices?
00:06My review of Monday Netflix Raw?
00:08And more.
00:09I'm Oli Davis, and this is the WrestleTalk News.
00:14When WWE first announced its $1.6 billion five year deal with ESPN last month, many
00:20became concerned over the sports network's journalistic integrity.
00:24Would they continue to cover the company with the same level of scrutiny?
00:27Or would they just write puff pieces because of the conflict of interest?
00:30It immediately didn't look good when ESPN removed any AEW coverage from their site.
00:36Then last week they published an article titled, How Seth Rollins Pulled Off The Biggest Injury
00:41Ruse In WWE History, despite most places reporting it was a worked angle a month before the reveal.
00:48But the truth is a light that can never be extinguished.
00:51And that light came in ESPN's review of their own WWE show with the clearly underwhelmed
00:58title WWE Wrestlepalooza grade.
01:01Did Rhodes McIntyre, Cena Lesnar get above average marks?
01:07Not Wrestlepalooza set records.
01:09Not heartwarming Stephanie McMahon surprise.
01:12Not even WWE and ESPN start strong.
01:16But was it above average?
01:20Going by ESPN's own review, no.
01:22WWE Wrestlepalooza final grade, C.
01:26The excellent Vicar vs. Sky match saved this show from being truly average.
01:30It was a phenomenal display inside the squared circle.
01:33Everything else was either underwhelming, the Short Roads McIntyre match, or a set up for
01:37a future match.
01:38Lesnar dominating Cena.
01:39Yeah, sure.
01:41Set up for a future match.
01:43For a card that promised to have epic moments, it fell a little short of expectations.
01:48I'm sure we all equally feel ESPN's pain at being disappointed with Wrestlepalooza.
01:53Many of us paid $30 to watch the show, and ESPN paid $1.6 billion.
01:57The crazier thing is, WWE could have put on a far more exciting show, but for whatever reason,
02:04they turned that creative down.
02:06The first match on the card was Brock Lesnar effectively squashing John Cena in under nine
02:10minutes.
02:11With Brock's suplexes, Cena made a short comeback with three AAs, and then Lesnar finished
02:16him off with six F5s.
02:18But apparently, on the very morning of the show, this wasn't the plan.
02:23When everyone started arriving on Saturday for Wrestlepalooza, Bodyslam.net is reporting
02:28Cena was scheduled to defeat Lesnar.
02:31They don't know the reason this changed so late in the day, but Wrestling Observer have
02:35reported that John Cena might be the one behind the decision, as he wants to put over people
02:39on his way out.
02:41Because that's what Brock Lesnar needs.
02:43More building.
02:44I had actually already predicted this worse timeline.
02:46Why would WWE go through the risk of controversy of bringing Lesnar back if he was going to lose
02:52his first match?
02:53Yes, they did do that in 2012.
02:55But now, Brock for them must be a long-term attraction.
02:58Otherwise, why bother having him return whilst the Janelle Grant lawsuit in which he's referenced
03:03is still ongoing?
03:04Also, Cena won't be around next year.
03:06Brock will.
03:07While I don't agree with the booking, I can definitely see a WWE mindset where they feel
03:11they need to keep Lesnar strong, and they know that Cena won't really lose anything.
03:16Especially when he beats Brock in the rematch in one of his final matches, right?
03:24Not so, according to Wrestling Observer Live, who claimed there isn't going to be another
03:28Lesnar vs Cena match.
03:31Wrestlepalooza was their last one, and Brock won't be John's final opponent.
03:36Fightful claimed that Cena vs Lesnar was, at one point, scheduled to be the main event of
03:40the show.
03:41Cena winning in that slot makes far more sense, sending the inaugural ESPN crowd home happy.
03:46Perhaps the match being moved to the opener happened at the same time they decided Brock
03:50was going over.
03:51Instead, Cody Rhodes vs Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship closed the show.
03:56In ESPN's own words, this felt more like a main event of SmackDown than the headliner
04:01of a PLE.
04:02Which we paid $1.6 billion for.
04:06But according to Bodyslam.net, Cody and Drew pitched an idea to creative that would have
04:11made a huge angle to begin the new ESPN era.
04:15One that WWE ultimately turned down.
04:19Apparently they pitched the idea of Randy Orton showing up, who was taken out by Drew weeks
04:23ago, and accidentally costing Cody his title, finally making McIntyre the WWE Champion.
04:30Rhodes would then feud with Drew, eventually win the title back.
04:34At which point Orton would turn heel on Cody to set up a big match between the two.
04:39Maybe even at WrestleMania 42.
04:41Which I'm just about to buy tickets for, right?
04:43Yep, just selling all of my old DVDs to make some money for that.
04:47And then my house.
04:48And I'm also going to sell, um, what's that organ that you can just have one of?
04:52Oh that's right, lungs.
04:54I'm going to sell one lung.
04:56Because PWInsider has confirmed the two day ticket prices for WrestleMania 42 that will go
05:01on sale later this week, which takes place at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas for the
05:06second year in a row.
05:07Hold on to your testicles.
05:09They cost $854 for the cheapest tickets.
05:14This is for the 400 section, which apparently has this view, so you're going to be the furthest
05:20away from the ring you can possibly be.
05:23The price obviously increases the closer you get in the stands, and then takes a huge jump
05:28to $3,868 by the time you get to the floor seats.
05:33Which goes up to the highest price of $8,998 for Section A1, the closest area to the ring.
05:42With Mania being on two nights, each amount does get you two tickets, so there's an argument
05:46you can halve the cost for the true single event price, but this also comes before Ticketmaster
05:51and handling fees.
05:52Having back to back Manias in the same location gives us a uniquely like for like comparison.
05:57In the exact same stadium just one year previously, the cheapest two day pass ended up being $545.
06:05That makes it a 57% increase year on year on just the cheapest Mania 42 tickets.
06:11And we don't yet know the true most expensive ones, as the big fan experience packages are
06:17yet to come out.
06:18But we know last year someone paid so much, it made Randy Orton personally embarrassed.
06:35Mania 42 might be more in demand than usual though, as the following years will be in Saudi
06:40Arabia, which most normal people won't travel to.
06:43It really feels like TKO are close to breaking their most loyal fanbase by extracting as much
06:48money from them as corporately possible.
06:50Oh my god Asuka just turned heel, who cares?
06:53Sign me up for Section A1!
06:55A1!
06:56A1!
06:57A1!
06:58That is a very specific joke, you have to have seen both the latest Superman movie and mid-noughties
07:03TNA to get it.
07:04Comment A1 down below for Team Canada.
07:07Now it's time for my review of Monday Netflix Raw in about 5 minutes.
07:11Raw was the best it's been in months because, crucially, stuff actually happened.
07:16Like storylines and characters actually progressed.
07:20And some of the matches weren't just variations on the same ones I've been watching all year.
07:24Even commentary was revamped, with Wade Barrett thankfully making his safe return from witness
07:28protection after Nikki Bella put a hit out on him.
07:31The show opened with Cody Rhodes talking about the one ring to rule them, the Crown Jewel ring,
07:36and then he said he actually wants nine rings to rule them, as he's got lots of naked
07:39fingers.
07:40Who the hell does he think he is?
07:41King John?
07:42The Vision interrupted as Seth Rollins is Cody's opponent for that ring, and now he's momentarily
07:47free from CM Punk.
07:49Seth got to be actually interesting.
07:51For the first time since his heel turn, we got to see actual psychological depth to his
07:56character.
07:57He wasn't boastful or obnoxious.
07:58He simply asked Cody, what does he think of him?
08:02Despite everything, they were friends, but a lot has changed since they were last together.
08:06Cody, in the Jungian therapy style, flipped the question back on him.
08:10What does Seth think about Seth?
08:12Which let the Rollins mask slip.
08:14If Cody keeps saying he's the quarterback, he must not believe Seth is the future.
08:19Just like the best parts of Roman Reigns as Tribal Chief, Seth suddenly feels insecure.
08:24Rollins said he'll prove he's the alpha, and Cody had the great closing line, asking
08:29of the three matches they've had, how many has Seth won?
08:32Presumably setting Rollins up for a win at Crown Jewel.
08:35Penta and the War Raiders beat the New Day in Grayson Waller, because of course they did.
08:38They always do.
08:39I have no idea why Penta is still in this storyline, and even less of an idea as to why the tag
08:44titles aren't around actually active tag teams.
08:47At least the match was really fun though, with Penta hitting a top rope Mexican Destroyer
08:51on Waller to win.
08:53Stephanie the Kerr got a brief title celebration in the ring, cutting a promo in English and
08:57Spanish.
08:58I was waiting for someone to interrupt her to start off her championship reign with a
09:01hot new program.
09:02But then Adam Pearce reminded me it's all about the one ring to rule them.
09:06And her next feud is actually whoever wins the women's title match on SmackDown.
09:10Nikki Bella and Rhea Ripley congratulated Stephanie backstage afterwards.
09:13Asuka got in Rhea's face, setting up the main event.
09:16Bayley, now in hugger mode again, asked Lyra Valkyria to be in her corner against Roxanne Perez,
09:21seemingly not remembering Angry Bayley from last week.
09:24Lyra helped Bayley win by taking out Raquel Rodriguez post interference, but Bayley flipped
09:28again and shoved Lyra to the ground in the post match.
09:31This is too goofy for me.
09:33Dominic Mysterio guilted JD McDonough into a match against Rusev, where Rusev is so not
09:37over, the crowd really got behind kind of heel JD.
09:41McDonough was excellent in this match though, and psychologically he became the underdog babyface.
09:46He's not the long term focus though, so he tapped to Rusev in the accolade.
09:50Dominic didn't save him, presumably because he's scared of Rusev, so Finn Balor ran down
09:54for the rescue.
09:55Defend the tag titles already!
09:57It'll be Dom vs Rusev for the IC title next week.
10:00The Bloodline saga saw Jey Uso's continuing meanness.
10:03Jimmy was angry that Jey got himself a match against LA Knight, rather than a rematch against
10:07the Bronze which was booked for next week.
10:09Cody Rhodes shared a heart to heart with Jey.
10:12He's saying some nice things about ups and downs in the business, but he's got family
10:15and friends who believe in him.
10:17Yep, I'm sure that minute long chat solved mental health.
10:20And then, presumably cleared from the concussion protocol he reportedly entered after WrestlePalooza,
10:25Jey had an intense match with LA Knight.
10:27But Bronze Interference distracted Knight, and Jey capitalised to get the win, furthering
10:31his more selfish character, leaving Jimmy to save Knight.
10:35The biggest development here though was that this wasn't the main event, thank god.
10:38With the first time in three months, we didn't end with the same kind of Vision Jey Knight
10:43blah blah blah angle.
10:45Becky Lynch was being Lady McSeth ranting behind Rollins backstage.
10:49We got a video package for Los Americanos now that the gimmick is a trios thing.
10:53This is nowhere near as funny as before.
10:54They'll have a tag match against AJ Lee next week.
10:57By which I mean AJ Styles and Dragon Lee.
11:00And the main event finally moved the long-running Asuka arrogance into its next phase.
11:06But just before I get into that big angle, please sign up to WrestleTalk's newsletter
11:10and social channels.
11:11You might have noticed over the last few months that lots of YouTube creators are talking about
11:16how the videos they make aren't getting served to their subscribers.
11:20That's because YouTube, in their infinite wisdom, have changed the algorithm, and it's
11:24increasingly not showing you our latest uploads.

11:44So do it, do it now, I'm actually going to wait for you.
12:08Rhea Ripley brought some much needed freshness to Raw's main event spot.
12:11This is only her fourth TV match in the last three months, and she has missed wrestling
12:16on the last two PLEs as well.
12:18And Asuka is one of the best wrestlers in the whole company.
12:21Asuka was so vicious and dangerous, in fact, it convincingly made Rhea feel like the underdog.
12:26But Asuka forcing Kairi to interfere backfired, and Ripley got the roll up win.
12:30It was all about the post-match angle, though.
12:32Asuka missed it Rhea so hard she effectively became a smurf, and she forced Kairi to beat
12:37her down too.
12:38Io ran down for the save, but Asuka turned on her as well, surely building to a big tag
12:42match in Perth.
12:44This week's Raw is 78%.
