00:00Polis Rally video resurfaces as fake French protest footage.
00:07An old video of a march in Warsaw to mark Poland's Independence Day has resurfaced online,
00:14with social media users falsely claiming that it depicts mass protests in Paris against the French government.
00:20This post, for example, says that 250,000 French people took to the streets
00:25against the government's cuts to healthcare spending and public holidays,
00:29Prior to being ousted in a no-confidence vote, France's former Prime Minister François Bayrou
00:35had planned a raft of budget cuts, including the removal of two public holidays
00:40to try and slash France's 3 trillion euro debt.
00:43On 10 September, mass protests broke out in France as part of the Bloc en tout movement
00:48in response to Bayrou's plans and wider discontent with President Emmanuel Macron's government.
00:54New Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has already cast the public holiday plan aside,
00:59but other protests have continued.
01:01However, the video in question doesn't depict any of these demonstrations
01:05and it wasn't even filmed in France.
01:07A reverse image search of stills from the video shows us that it actually portrays a large rally
01:13marking Poland's Independence Day in 2017.
01:16We can see it first emerge online on the 12th of November of that year,
01:20the day after Poland's Independence Day on the 11th of November.
01:24There are also visual clues within the video.
01:26It shows people flying the red and white Polish flag,
01:30and these signs for retailers H&M, CNA and TK Maxx also match those on a central Warsaw roundabout,
01:37according to pictures from Google Maps.
01:39Additionally, you can hear the Polish national anthem being played in the background.
01:43The video was previously also taken out of context in November 2024,
01:48with false captions on X saying that it showed huge protests against migrants
01:52and declaring Poland a Christian country.
01:55Fact checkers debunked it at the time.
