00:00It was the year 1960 when India had been independent for 13 years. This meant that India was not completely deprived in terms of grain production and at the same time America had imposed a ban on India's grain.
00:11India faced the Banker famine and drought in 1965-1966.
00:16US President Lyndon B. Johnson imposed restrictions on the supply of cows to put pressure on India.
00:22This was the reason that India was the only country in the world which was active in the Kut Nirpekh San Dollar at that time.
00:28It means not siding with any country in a war situation, neither this way nor that way.
00:34But India often supported the USSR along with the Soviets instead of the US.
00:39America wanted India to support it in this matter as its foreign leader.
00:44But India adopted a Sutantaran policy and refused it.
00:47Annoyed by this, Johnson allowed India to send cows in bulk every time.
00:53He spoke to Lal Badur Shastri, who was the then Minister of State.
00:56If India does not stop this war, we will stop giving you food grains.
01:01Lal Badur Shastri only told America to stop giving cows
01:05And America stopped giving cows.
01:07But India made such a move that America was left watching.
01:11India started the Green Revolution after 1965 and 1966.
01:15Lal Badur Sastri ji gave the slogan Jai Jawan Jai Kisan which was added to the idea of farming on every vacant land.
01:21With the initiative of Dr. Ames Swami Nathan Normal Borlauk and the then Kirsi Minister C. Subramanyam, high eld varieties of Jev and Dan were introduced to India and new methods of cultivation became common.
01:32By the 1970s, India had gradually achieved near-normal levels in grain production.
01:37As a result, from 1.2 crore tonnes of grain production in 1965, India was now producing 2 crore tonnes of grain by 1970.
01:46Today India is not only a leader in grain production
01:49Rather, it is one of the biggest negative countries in the world.
