00:00Google is one of the most widely used search engines on the Internet today.
00:04In fact, it's used billions of times every single day.
00:10And what is even more amazing is that this search engine can provide answers
00:14to almost any question or query that we type in the search box.
00:20Now, isn't that amazing?
00:22Now, despite how useful and accurate Google can be sometimes,
00:26many people still don't know how it really works.
00:30So today, in this video, we'll be discussing everything about the Google search engine
00:35so that by the end of this video, you'll understand exactly how it works.
00:42So, without further ado, let's get started.
00:45Before we get into how Google works, we need to first understand what Google actually does.
00:51The main goal of Google is to take all the information available online
00:55and then organize it in such a way that it can provide users with relevant
01:01and high-quality search results in a matter of seconds.
01:05It basically takes the user's request, also known as a query,
01:10and then uses complex algorithms to find the most relevant and useful websites
01:14that can provide answers to those queries.
01:17This process happens in a fraction of a second, which is just mind-blowing if you ask me.
01:24Now, Google's primary source of revenue comes from advertising,
01:28but that's not what we're focusing on today.
01:30Instead, we'll be looking at how Google manages to retrieve relevant results
01:36whenever we use the search engine.
01:38The first step of any Google search starts with the user typing in a query
01:42or a question in the search box.
01:45But before Google can actually start searching for an answer,
01:50it first needs to understand what the user is actually looking for.
01:54For example, if the user types in,
01:57Where can I buy a pizza?
01:59Google needs to understand that the user is looking for a place to buy a pizza.
02:03So, it needs to identify keywords like buy and pizza
02:06and then understand the intent behind the query.
02:09This process is known as natural language processing,
02:13which is basically the ability of a computer system
02:16to understand and interpret human language.
02:19Now, Google uses advanced algorithms and machine learning techniques
02:24to perform natural language processing,
02:27which allows it to understand the context of the query
02:30and then retrieve relevant results.
02:33Once Google has understood the query,
02:35it then needs to retrieve the most relevant web pages
02:38that can provide answers to that query.
02:41Now, this is done through Google's crawler,
02:45which is basically a program that goes out
02:47and fetches all the web pages that are available online.
02:50Once the crawler has fetched all the web pages,
02:54Google then uses its indexing system
02:57to store and organize all the information
03:00in a way that can be easily accessed.
03:03Now, this indexing system basically works
03:07by storing all the information in a data,
03:08which is basically a large collection of data
03:11that can be easily accessed and managed.
03:14Once Google has indexed all the web pages,
03:18it then uses its ranking algorithm
03:20to determine which web pages are the most relevant
03:23and useful for the user's query.
03:26The ranking algorithm basically works
03:28by assigning a score to each web page
03:30based on a number of factors,
03:32such as the quality and relevance of the content,
03:36the website's authority and trustworthiness,
03:38and the user's location.
03:40After the ranking algorithm has assigned a score
03:43to each web page,
03:45Google then retrieves the top-ranked web pages
03:48and displays them on the search engine results page,
03:53also known as the SERP now.
03:58The SRP is what you see
04:00when you perform a Google search,
04:01and it displays the top-ranked websites
04:04that Google believes are the most relevant
04:06and useful for your query.
04:08Now, this process of retrieving and ranking web pages
04:12happens in a fraction of a second,
04:14which is just mind-blowing.
04:15But wait!
04:17There's more!
04:18Google doesn't just stop at providing the user
04:21with a list of relevant websites.
04:23Instead, it also provides additional features,
04:27such as snippets,
04:28which basically provide a brief summary of the web page,
04:31and then there are knowledge panels
04:33that provide users with additional information
04:35about the topic of the query.
04:36These features are designed to provide users
04:39with the most relevant and useful information possible.
04:43Now, let's talk about some of the factors
04:45that affect how Google ranks websites.
04:48As I mentioned earlier,
04:50Google uses a ranking algorithm
04:52to determine how relevant and useful a website is.
04:57And this algorithm takes into account
05:00a number of factors,
05:01such as the quality and relevance of the content,
05:04the website's authority and trustworthiness,
05:07and the user's location.
05:09One of the most important factors
05:11that affect how Google ranks websites
05:13is the quality and relevance of the content.
05:16Now, Google wants to provide users
05:18with the most relevant and up-to-date information possible.
05:22Google, therefore, it gives higher rankings
05:26to websites that have high-quality relevant content.
05:31This means that the content should be well-written,
05:34informative, and up-to-date.
05:36If a website has low-quality content
05:38or content that is not relevant to the user's query,
05:42it will receive a lower ranking.
05:44Another factor that affects how Google ranks websites
05:46is the website's authority and trustworthiness.
05:50Google wants to provide users
05:51with information from trustworthy sources.
05:55Therefore, it gives higher rankings
05:57to websites that are more authoritative and trustworthy.
06:01This means that websites
06:03that have been established for a long time
06:06and have a strong online presence
06:09are more likely to receive higher rankings.
06:13Additionally, websites that have been penalized
06:16for spam or other manipulative practices
06:19are less likely to receive high rankings.
06:23The third factor that affects how Google ranks websites
06:26is the user's location.
06:28Google takes into account the user's location
06:29when determining the most relevant and useful information.
06:32Therefore, it gives higher rankings
06:35to websites that are located closer to the user.
06:38This means that if a user is in New York,
06:42Google will give higher rankings
06:44to websites that are based in New York
06:46or the surrounding area.
06:48Now, these are just some of the factors
06:50that affect how Google ranks websites.
06:53There are many other factors
06:56that play a role in the ranking process.
06:59And Google is constantly updating its algorithm
07:03to improve the quality of the search results.
07:06Speaking of updates,
07:08one of the most recent updates to Google's algorithm
07:11is known as the Core Web Vitals Update.
07:13This update focuses on the user experience
07:16and it takes into account factors
07:18such as the website S-loading speed,
07:21interactivity,
07:22and visual stability.
07:24Websites that meet the Core Web Vitals standards
07:28are more likely
07:30because they provide a better user experience.
07:39Another recent update to Google's algorithm
07:41is the BERT update.
07:42BERT stands for Bi-directional Encoder,
07:46representations from transformers,
07:49and it is a machine learning algorithm
07:51that helps Google better understand
07:53the context of the user's query.
07:55This means that Google can provide
07:57more relevant and useful search results
07:59by understanding the intent behind the query.
08:03These are just two examples
08:04of recent updates to Google's algorithm.
08:07Google is constantly updating its algorithm
08:11to improve the quality of the search results
08:16and keep up with the evolving needs of the users.
08:22In conclusion, Google is a powerful search
08:25engine that uses advanced algorithms
08:28and techniques to provide users
08:30with relevant and useful information.
08:32From natural language processing
08:34to ranking algorithms,
08:37Google uses a variety of methods
08:39to ensure that users get
08:40the best possible search experience
08:42as technology continues to evolve.
08:47We can expect Google to continue updating
08:53and improving its algorithms
08:54to provide users with even more relevant
08:57and useful information.
09:00Whether you're looking for information
09:01on a specific topic
09:03or trying to find a product to buy,
09:05Google's a valuable tool
09:06that can help you find what you're looking for
09:08quickly and easily.
09:12That's all for this video.
