00:00Queen of Spain, to address some words.
00:14Presidente, Ministro, Autoridades, Alcalde, Rector, un saludo para todo el mundo.
00:21Muchas gracias por haber querido venir aquí. Muy buenos días, good morning.
00:24I first of all would like to thank the Cancer Research Center for hosting us today.
00:30Your work with the University of Salamanca and CSIC has been remarkable and long-lasting, by the way.
00:38Happy anniversary. Felicidades por esos 25 años.
00:42I also thank the Spanish Association Against Cancer for organizing this event.
00:47And of course, allow me to recognize the work of different entities and researchers who support our shared goal.
00:57Preventing and conducting research on cancer, being more effective in its treatments, caring for patients,
01:05and giving them a more powerful voice.
01:09And why? Because everyone, even before potentially becoming patients,
01:15should be at the center of research and of concern by our healthcare system.
01:22So the key word is prevention.
01:24I think when you talk about the, your motto is so pertinent.
01:31Cancer research needs us all.
01:35It's very important.
01:36Moreover, patient experience transforms technological innovation into a human innovation
01:42and ultimately improves medical effectiveness.
01:47What we are talking about, what you are talking about,
01:50is a more inclusive research, one that leads to more effective and humane treatments.
01:59In our complex and rapidly changing world, global priorities may equally shift.
02:06But that does not necessarily apply to certain empirical realities,
02:12like cancer remaining, the second leading cause of death worldwide,
02:17the first last year in Spain.
02:21Accomplishments and strides, of course, are numerous.
02:25This center is a good example.
02:28I have just been to several of your labs where you are working on how to improve the diagnosis
02:34and treatment of cancer caused by mutations in specific oncogenes,
02:39where you try to explore deeper into chemical mutations in RNA
02:44or study the genetic basis of myeloma in the field of hematological cancers.
02:51However, we know that this is continuous today to spread faster than our knowledge.
02:58That is why equitable and secure funding remains vital,
03:02ensuring fairness and transparency both in the distribution of resources
03:07and in the access to results, as well as in guaranteeing the basic right to healthcare.
03:15It is, therefore, more than worthy to continue investing in research,
03:20in technology, in services, and, above all, in talent,
03:24without forgetting how crucial it is to invest in prevention.
03:29As we hope that those of you who work in oncological research
03:34may access the means to continue doing so
03:38and share your knowledge as you are about to do here today.
03:42These spaces for dialogue are truly important
03:46because in order to make true progress,
03:50science also needs to listen and to be heard.
03:55So, keep going, and thank you very much.
03:57Muchas gracias.
03:57And now for the first round table,
04:12I would like to invite Dr. Ramon Reyes,
04:15President of the Spanish Association Against Cancer,
04:18and Dr. Jose Bustelo to join me here.
04:22Please.
04:22Ramon Reyes.
