00:00From afar, Yosemite's walls look unapproachable, unascendable, unclimbable.
00:23They had been. They are no longer. This is the story of what changed.
00:32We're coming from the tradition of John Muir, which said, you don't leave anything behind. You leave no trace behind.
00:41I guess our plan was to go to the valley and make big first descents. Kind of a false hero type thing.
00:48What's interesting about climbing is it's a means of coming to grips with what you're afraid of.
00:55You're afraid of falling. You climb because you're afraid.
00:59It's a pretty impressive place to be. If you look down, it means you know that you don't want to be making any mistakes.
01:18If we were really pushing the standards to make a huge advancement, then that's the most exciting time of any sport.
01:29Here, rock climbing, if you want to get the maximum adventure, you get on a big wall.
01:34And so it was the adventure that was particularly attractive.
01:37Nobody in any sport, no Super Bowl, no World Series, can even remotely touch this.
