02:49nghĩa a pullback
02:51is coming here.
02:54Longer term,
02:55we like the fact
02:56that they're in the
02:57industries of the future,
02:59autonomous driving,
03:00increasingly in robotics.
03:02There's a lot of reasons
03:03to be bullish on the stock
03:05looking out 5 to 10 years from now.
03:07It's just that the near term,
03:09I think analysts
03:10have really overestimated
03:12the earnings
03:12and there's a lack of understanding
03:13just how much of an adverse impact
03:16that law is going to have
03:18on Tesla's bottom line.
03:19Starting with the third quarter.
03:22Can I ask you about
03:23autonomous and AI,
03:24which you brought up there?
03:25Dan Ives over at Wedbush.
03:27Now, he, of course,
03:27bull of bulls on the name, right?
03:29He told his clients, Garrett,
03:31Tesla is in pole position
03:32to be a clear leader
03:33in the autonomous market
03:34opportunity of robo-taxis.
03:36He says set to scale
03:38to 30 to 35 cities
03:39in the U.S. over the next year.
03:40Says we believe the AI future
03:42at Tesla is worth $1 trillion
03:43to the valuation alone
03:46over the next few years.
03:47What is your response
03:48to Mr. Ives there?
03:49Do you agree with that?
03:51I mean, look,
03:52there's a lot of reasons
03:53for optimism there.
03:55In our view, though,
03:56their full self-driving
03:57where it is today
03:58is not ready for prime time.
04:01You know,
04:01they're only in Austin
04:02in the Bay Area right now.
04:05And you can go online,
04:06find any number of videos
04:08that have been uploaded
04:09in recent weeks
04:10where, you know,
04:11the software is taking
04:13a vehicle the wrong way
04:15into oncoming traffic.
04:17It's just not quite ready
04:18for prime time.
04:19And so I think Tesla
04:20is going to continue
04:21to be careful
04:23about rolling this out
04:24to other markets
04:25until it's proven
04:27that it is safe
04:28and it is ready
04:28for mass adoption.
04:30But, you know,
04:31the other thing
04:32I would say
04:32is that
04:33on Tesla's
04:35last earnings call
04:35in July,
04:36you know,
04:36Elon Musk acknowledged
04:38the possibility
04:40of a rough few quarters
04:41ahead for the company.
04:42We think investors
04:44should take him
04:45at his word.
04:46What about the pay package,
04:47Garrett,
04:48for Mr. Musk?
04:50The $1 trillion man,
04:52potentially.
04:53I'm curious,
04:53as an analyst,
04:54covering the name
04:54what you made of that.
04:55Did that remove
04:56kind of one key risk, Garrett,
04:58that folks did talk about
04:59that Mr. Musk
05:00might leave Tesla?
05:03It does.
05:05And we would expect,
05:06we do think shareholders
05:08will approve
05:09that pay package
05:09at the annual meeting
05:11in November.
05:13What we've seen
05:13over time continuously
05:15is that shareholders
05:17have shown support
05:19for Musk.
05:20Obviously,
05:21he's delivered
05:21for them over time.
05:23If you've been
05:23a long-term shareholder,
05:24you've done very well.
05:26And so,
05:27we also like the fact
05:30that it really aligns
05:31Musk's interest
05:32with the interests
05:33of shareholders.
05:34He doesn't even
05:34meet the first tranche
05:36under this new
05:37pay package proposal
05:39until the stock
05:41essentially doubles
05:42in price
05:44from where it is today.
05:45So,
05:46the goals
05:50are very lofty
05:51for this pay package
05:53as they were
05:54back in 2018.
05:55And he,
05:56in fact,
05:57he succeeded
05:57in meeting
05:58every one
05:58of those thresholds.
06:00He did indeed.
06:01Garrett,
06:02thanks so much
06:02for your time today.
06:03Appreciate it.
06:03Thank you.
06:05Thank you.
06:05Thank you.
