Speaking at the Liberal Democrat conference in Bournemouth, Sir Ed Davey celebrated his party’s gains against the Conservatives, telling members they had removed “60” MPs from power. He pledged to be the voice of a “decent, caring Britain” and accused the “old parties” of failing the public. Davey vowed to take on Nigel Farage’s divisive politics while offering positive change. 00:00Two years ago we said we need to beat some Conservatives, we need to get them
00:05out of government. Did we do that? How many did we beat? It was 60!
00:13So thank you all for all that but now we've got bigger targets to go for, haven't
00:19we? Doesn't the country need us? We're determined to be that party of decent
00:26caring Britain. The vast majority of people who want a decent caring party,
00:32they're going to take this government on and hold them to account for what they've
00:36done to pensioners, to disabled, to farmers, to businesses. We're going to be that
00:41party but we're also going to stand up to the divisive politics of Nigel Farage.
00:47I won't be only the Liberal Democrats offering a positive change, a change true to
00:52British values. Whereas I'm afraid the other old parties are incapable of doing
00:57that, it's up to us to take on the divisive garage. We'll do that but we'll offer
01:02something much much better. A great Liberal Democrat set of ideas on health
01:07and care, the cost of living, the environment, on Europe and so many other
01:11things we're going to debate this weekend and next week. So thank you very much for
01:15coming. It's been going to be a great, great time. Thank you.
