A COMPUTER genius has managed to build a full size remote-controlled Corvette that wouldn’t look out of place in the latest Fast and Furious film. Bjorn Harms decided to pursue his childhood dream by creating a full-scale vehicle that can be manoeuvred with just a small remote. Bjorn grew up watching the Back To The Future movies and was mesmerised by Doc racing around the DeLorean without anyone sitting in the driver’s seat. Wanting to emulate this fascinating scene, Bjorn, a computer technician from Urmond, Netherlands, decided to apply his knowledge and expertise to a 2006 Corvette C6 – and he hasn’t looked back since. Bjorn has also built full-scale remote controlled Knightrider and Back To The Future replicas.

00:01I'm pretty proud of what I've done.
00:03I haven't seen anybody who done exactly the same thing.
00:06This car is fully remote-controlled.
00:19This is my 2006 Corvette C6.
00:22And it's a full-scale, remote-controlled car and I like it a lot.
00:26This is 34-year-old computer technician Bjorn Harms.
00:31He's built a full-sized, remote-controlled Corvette
00:34that wouldn't look out of place in the latest Bond film.
00:40My first idea of building a full-sized, remote-controlled car
00:44was by watching Back to the Future when I was a little kid.
00:48And I always had this idea of, man, when I'm older and I get my first car
00:52then I want to try to make my own full-scale, remote-controlled car.
00:56And that's what I did.
01:00The Corvette is road-legal and even my daily driver.
01:05Two years ago I bought a Corvette C6
01:08and I came up with this idea to make it full-scale, remote-controlled.
01:13So I had to make a universal motor controller
01:16so I could control different types of motors
01:19that I've attached to the controls of the car.
01:21I control the car with my four-channel transmitter.
01:25It controls the braking, the gear changing, the throttle and the steering.
01:30Building the universal motor controller took me around one year.
01:34Then it took me around three months to make a prototype system.
01:38And it took me another three months to make a system that was also safe enough to use.
01:43I also made a fail-safe system.
02:08So that means if the car gets out of range of my transmitter, the brakes start braking automatically.
02:23The engine is a V8 6-liter.
02:25It has around 404 horsepower and the top speed is close to 300 kilometers an hour.
02:31Technically it could go that fast remotely, but highly unwisely.
02:45The first time I drove the car I felt pretty scary because I was a little bit nervous on
02:50would it actually work properly.
02:54So, but after testing it, it worked better than I thought.
02:58Most people are very excited and they actually love the project.
03:05But there are also a lot of people that think it's crazy and of course a little bit dangerous.
03:13The entire RC process cost around 3,500 euros, give or take.
03:19Well, the Corvette values right now is around 30,000 euros.
03:23Even with the remote control system.
03:26I would consider selling it, but mainly so I can start another project again.
03:35I'm pretty sure there's no other Corvette in the world that controls like this one.
