00:00Good morning Sheffield, it's Alistair from the Sheffield Star and I'm speaking to you from
00:02Eckersall Road where last night two homeowners seem to have had a bit of a lucky break when
00:07this ancient oprah tree that you can see behind me came crashing to earth. I was speaking to a
00:11man who was having a pint at the Champs pub across the road who told me there was the very classic
00:16crack, creep, bang like something as a movie as this tree behind me came crashing to earth.
00:23Despite the clear damage it actually very luckily missed both houses that it was leaning towards
00:29both houses from my forest you can see have been unscathed in this however two cars were caught
00:34underneath it on two separate properties and are now in absolute pieces this morning. More lucky
00:38is that nobody was hurt in that neither of the properties were damaged and the tree didn't fall
00:42away if it had fallen the other direction towards Champs it would have easily reached the pub and
00:46caused damaging maybe a loss of life there as well but instead it's come to earth and no one's been
00:52hurt in the process and no properties have been damaged it's just a loss of a very ancient tree
00:57here in Sheffield that I understand was on the ancient tree register. Tree surgeons were out
01:02last night the road was closed by police from around 7pm while they did their work and they
01:07continue to work at the scene today wondering how they're having removed but in the meantime a loss
01:12of an ancient tree in Sheffield but thankfully with no property damage and no loss of life.
