Transcript
00:00So, how does it feel to be here in Production Park?
00:04It's absolutely fantastic to be here to celebrate all things Wakefield.
00:08Wakefield's really on the map, both nationally and internationally, for film and TV production.
00:13Look, we've got The Voice coming here very soon to do both the semi-final and the final.
00:17Well, there's Dargar, Beyonce and Coldplay coming right here to Wakefield to forget London, forget New York.
00:24It's all about Wakefield.
00:25Tell me all about film Wakefield.
00:27I can. It's a new initiative for Wakefield to shine a spotlight on what Wakefield can offer film and TV productions.
00:35We were really, really lucky. A couple of years ago, we had a lessons film here.
00:39So, a little production. You might not have heard of it too much, but it really went viral.
00:45It went big. It's won lots of Emmys. You know what I'm talking about.
00:48But what we proved was that we had an infrastructure in the Wakefield area to support film and TV productions,
00:54which we'd not really had before.
00:56So, we've got amazing studios at Production Park, we've got prop hire companies, we've got hair and make-up people,
01:03we've got actors, we've got extras, we've got all the infrastructure, we've got caterers, we've got everything that you need.
01:08So, why would you go anywhere else?
01:10And what kind of productions have been filmed here?
01:12There's obviously been adolescence and you've got a background in film.
01:16So, the more recent ones are things like, obviously, adolescence, boat story, touch of frost, national treasures.
01:25Beautiful locations here. It's just unsurpassed.
01:28The passion of the people is actually more almost important than locations.
01:31People think of film locations as stately homes and country houses, but in actual fact, it could be a disused shopping centre.
01:38But it's the passion of the people and how we make it easy for a production company to come and work in the district,
01:43helping with the supply chain that supplies the film industry, which is anything from catering, crew, hotels, road closures,
01:52permits for drones, everything, parking, everything to make it really easy for them to come and work with the passionate people of Wakefield.
02:00The DNA is created for Wakefield. We've got Hepworth, we've got the Yorkshire Scovature Park.
02:04It's so much in our belief.
02:06So, to get people to make it easy for them to come and film here is just my passion.
02:11Edmund, what films have been filmed here that people might not have heard of?
02:15Well, obviously, everybody's heard of the recent film, which was filmed right here where we're standing,
02:19in the building I project managed, in Production Park, which was Adolescence, which has just won its eight Emmys, as we all know.
02:27There have been a broad range of films, people begin to list them, but on the back of successful films comes, obviously, film tourism,
02:35which, again, brings more economic value into the district.
02:38Film tourism is a massive thing to places like Happy Valley.
02:41I know Adolescence isn't the most obvious film for tourism due to the nature of the film,
02:46but having said that, people have been wandering around South Kirby and Wakefield,
02:49having a look to see if they can see, you know, see the seeds.
02:54So, yeah, it's really important.
