00:00So David's saying you wait until all three of us are in before you make the trip, but I think you've been doing that.
00:05I mean, here's the thing. I do this. I think we all understand each other.
00:15Jerry and I met in 1964. Jerry came from California, and I came from New Jersey.
00:22The man had a heavy burden on his shoulders, being the king of the deadheads, and here it was all about hanging out, playing music.
00:28They're born out of the same cosmic egg.
00:31And they did kind of look similar.
00:33Old friends that are great musicians.
00:35I think David tightened Jerry up.
00:37Beards of a feather.
00:38I think Jerry loosened David up.
00:40He started the dead style of music.
00:43David, he started dog music.
00:45So we have a new tune, Grateful Dog.
00:51Both David and Jerry were really musicologists.
00:54They would sort of unearth these things and bring them to light and share them with people.
00:59Jerry used to say to me, hey, we can do this for the rest of our lives, you know, just keep getting together.
01:03And we did.
01:05But once he died, I realized, well, this is it.
01:09I think Jerry coming over to the house, it's like a little safe haven.
01:15He could come here and be one of the guys.
01:19There was something about Jerry and David playing together that made it more fun.
01:25They had a musical friendship.
01:27We both share a lot of love for old-time music and traditional music.
01:30So we're trying all kinds of things.
01:32It all feels good.
01:33That studio was just so relaxed.
01:36Yeah, hey, that's a good one.
01:37I love that.
01:38It's kind of like I remember being a kid and playing in someone's basement.
01:42American, you know.
01:43And I'd like you to meet my friend Jerry.
01:45Hi, how are you?
01:46Jerry, hi.
01:47I get hungry for delight.
01:51Just might get some sleep tonight.
02:03Thanks for meeting me.
